It’s sense like this that has the pretenders so terrified. Such a shame John Key is such an amateur he couldn’t identify the strategic opportunity the Conservative Party represents for National.
PRESS RELEASE Water Debate Unnecessary and Divisive
“It’s time to stop dividing New Zealand,” Colin Craig, Leader of the Conservative Party said today.“The Conservative Party believes in equal rights and privileges for all New Zealanders, as set out in the Treaty of Waitangi. We are committed to one standard of citizenship and support common ownership by all New Zealanders of the foreshore, seabed, and waterways.”
“Water falls free from the sky and is a common asset that all of us as New Zealanders share in. If commercial interests make substantial use of water, and we charge them for it, that revenue should belong to all New Zealanders equally.”
“The idea of allocating special ownership rights to any person or group is unwise. As New Zealanders we are tired of the continual litigation and bargaining that promotes and encourages division.”
“The National Party is setting a dangerous precedent when it comes to publicly owned assets in this country. The Conservative Party has a clear position that water assets should not be privatised to any interest or group. We do not want a repeat of the foreshore and seabed legislation which was a mistake, and put tribal interests ahead of the public good.”
“We are also opposed to this becoming another dispute settled by a back room deal.”
“Water is an asset that should be held in common ownership for the benefit of us all.”
ENDS

I see that CC has finally realised he shouldn’t ignore the free advice dispensed in Kiwiblog’s comment threads!
If Colin Craig reads anything that progressive liberal Farrar has to say, it will destroy his party (which is, after all, Farrar’s aim). If he listens to what the vast majority of Farrar’s commenters have to say, he’s certifiable.
To their shame the National Party fears what the Conservative party represents…………..it’s own founding values.
I hope CC keeps up this common sense rhetoric. He’s sure to get a big chunk of the centre and right-of-centre vote…………and the wrath of the left, the MSM and the agrievers/graspers. :popcorn
Well said, mawm. The Conservative Party is everything National should be, used to be, but isn’t.
I recall in 1978 then National Minister Peter Gordon insisting that National “is a broad based Party.” Meaning: We stand for everything if it will harpoon a few votes but really we stand for nothing!
“Such a shame John Key is such an amateur ”
Amateur..?
Yes he is that indeed, but most of all he’s a self serving little political coward who has continually put his own political career and popularity ahead of the good of the country.
The National Party of recent history are despicable traitors to their founding principles, but never more so since they have been led by this politically ignorant smirking little jerk.
He is both of those things, Red. As a leader, he makes a good market trader. The decisions he has made or allowed since 2008 have made our country demonstrably worse, economically weaker and racially divided.
He makes calls based on who he thinks he will need as allies to remain in power in 2014, not caring what may happen afterwards.
The Conservatives are very much against asset privatizations or sales of all kinds – whether to Maori or to overseas or even to the NZ Cullen Fund.
The only reason Key had the numbers in parliament to pass asset sales was because the 3% Conservative voters didn’t get represented in parliament – despite polling more than ACT and UF combined
The Conservatives have more common with Jim Anderton’s Progressives that they do with ACT.
The same self-appointed elite which describes majority opposition to importing more primitive thugs as “islamophobia” considers itself to be so superior, so above the common man that it can dictate policies which enforce maori supremacy on all Kiwis.
The lines of power don’t run from the citizens to the ballot box and beyond..they run from academia and the media to special interests who regard voters with contempt.
And voters allow it.
If voters persist in regarding the ballot box as the solution, then they should be consistent..and boycott elections.
and our PC govt heads are betraying our BEST out of fear of muslim backlash-another BEST betrayed
