‘We’re the U.N. Here to help you’

Congolese rebels take Goma.
‘..United Nations peacekeepers, who had deployed helicopters to strafe the rebels with cannons and rockets on Sunday in a futile attempt to slow their advance, appeared to give up and just stood by watching as the rebels took the city. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said it was “absurd” that the 17,000-member UN force was unable to stop a few hundred rebels.’

  1. Flashman says:

The Congo was once one of the most peaceful countries in Africa.

But that was 60 years ago – when Old School Belgian Stone Breakers were running the show.

    • Darin says:

      Here’s the truth-
“Is there any mystery about why the Rwandan massacre occurred? Can anyone guess how come the UN missions never disarm the warring parties? Here’s a modest proposal. The UN should form up their troops into a brass band to provide music and entertainment as a backdrop to proceedings. They serve some purpose that way.”

Think I posted this before, shows what can be done with an effective fighting force and more importantly one that actually picks a side and takes action in a conflict-

UN”Peace keepers” should start wearing Panties on their heads since they’re a bunch of P—ies

Read -Blood River by Tim Butcher to see what an ungovernable hell hole the Congo has become.
Sigh.. another black african success story.

    From Kosovo to the Congo
    Wherever, whenever the UN show
    You know
A clusterfuck is hot to go.

  5. Darin says:

    Heard a good one today-

2016 Obama’s policies have taken their full effect.Everybody is poor, there are no cars and trucks left and everybody is riding Horses once again.

A woman walking down the street sees a little boy playing on the sidewalk with a pile of Horsecrap.

She asks the little boy what are you doing with that?
He says I am building a politician.
    She asks which politician?
    Why Nancy Pelosi of course.
She then asks why Nancy Pelosi?

Little boy replies-“Cause I don’t have a big enough pile of shit to make Obama”

Picking up on Darin’s excellent EO clip….

Thinking back, in the mid-1960’s a couple of hundred South African and Rhodesian mercs smashed up a RUF-style mob of Congo rebels running loose throughout north-east Congo.

Proof that one trained and experienced soldier is easily worth more than at least 50 of such scum. Of course the reciprocal variables in this formula apply in the case of designated UN “peacekeepers”.

    • KG says:

      :cheers

    • mawm says:

I don’t think the Rhodesians were involved in the Congo. Mad Mike Hoare (an Irishman), South Africans, exiled Cubans, Belgian paratroopers and CIA hired mercenaries were the ones involved in Katanga. Later Bob Denard (a Frenchman) was involved in the rescue at Stanleyville.

Some Rhodesians were involved in the abortive Seychelles coup (also an American sacntioned action) attempt by a clearly out of it Hoare.

      • KG says:

He wasn’t called Mad Mike for nothing. In later years he was more concerned with maintaining the legend than actually performing as advertised. He did mercenaries no favours at all with his over-the-top self promotion.

  7. Flashman says:

Important point of emphasis: Rhodesian mercs were definitely present in Katanga [circa 1963] and subsequently with Mad Mike in tidying up NE Congo [circa 1965].

There was an hotel in Salisbury [name escapes me now] that used to be their home base and drinking hole.

  8. RWT says:

We we in Australia fought tooth and nail…. no wait, scratch that, we paid threw money by the bucket loads to gain a temporary seat at the UN. Another waste of time, money and self respect.

“French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said it was “absurd” that the 17,000-member UN force was unable to stop a few hundred rebels.’”

That’s what you get when you have no balls and no teeth.

  9. KG says:

“That’s what you get when you have no balls and no teeth.”
Exactly. I’m just surprised that anybody is still surprised.
