Reality vs wishful thinking

‘..I am republishing my three-part series about the LA Riots of 1992 in which Karen and I and the children were trapped for several frightening hours. We were unarmed, helpless save for our wits. The police were conspicuously absent and the bad guys, frequently armed with heavy weapons, owned the streets. It was a defining moment in my life.
I’m reposting this series as a cautionary tale because the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre has sharpened the claws of the statist utopians, whose ultimate aim is to disarm law-abiding American citizens.
Just as Obamacare has nothing to do with health, and cap and trade has nothing to do with so-called global warming, anti-gun laws have nothing to do with saving children’s lives…’      source
Anybody who says law-abiding citizens don’t need “assault weapons” is either dishonest or dumb as a bag of hammers.
UPDATE:  Col. B. Bunny has something to say on this.

  1. Mike Webber says:

Also always remember the 269 million citizens murdered by their own Governments in the last 100 years. Nearly all of them unarmed.

…………………. because now I am a Jew with a gun.

Hey KG, what’s happened to half the smileys?

  3. Darin says:

Notice how the Cops were nowhere to be seen in all that.

And notice it was the Koreans who stood together, as a cohesive society should, and together they fought off the barbarians. On your own it’s just a case of taking out as many as you can before they get you.

  4. KG says:

Yet the media described the Koreans as “vigilantes”, even though the police were pulled out because it was too dangerous!

  5. Kirly` says:

I grew up in Los Angeles. Lived through the LA riots of 1960s. Same deal – fear, hiding, people beat and murdered for the color of their skin. Barbarians. One of my earliest living memories is of hiding in the back of the house as a toddler. All the women back there trying to keep all the children and babies quiet. All these years later, my oldest brother told me what was going on in the front of the house. Pops, several of his brothers who lived nearby, a number of men of a variety of “races” (technically, they were all the same race – HUMAN) from Pops work were all there. They had answered the call for help. With guns. Many guns. All lined up. Pops said to my brother, “Boy, load them weapons.” Taught him how to do one and expected him to figure out the rest, which he did. Those MEN stood guard over us all until the danger had passed. This happened several times over the years.

Anyone who reads this and wonders if we were in any danger can look at a map of Los Angeles, south central LA, Compton, and Carson. I grew up in Carson 10 miles (almost exactly) due south of the Watts Towers.

The other day a now former friend stated that “no one should have automatic weapons like that guy who shot up that school in CT”. No amount of words could convince her that she had been lied to and that the weapon was not automatic. In fact, she said it didn’t matter because no one should have guns that “look like they could mow people down”. I tried to illustrate the idiocy involved in banning things that “looked scary” and ignoring equally lethal weapons that weren’t as scary looking – to demonstrate that it’s not just the scary ones they want. No amount of facts and logic worked. I ultimately had to say, “you’re entitled to your own opinion but you’re not entitled to your own facts.” That confused her. She really is stupid. I’m very disappointed.

In the future, I shall be alot more careful about those who i help and/or befriend. Had I known she wanted to disarm me, I never would have helped her all those years. Her own damn stupid adult kids who treat her like crap when they pay any attention to her at all can help her from now on. Helping her was never about her at all – it was about ME as a decent human being helping someone in need. So, I’m good with all that i’ve done and with this final decision. I do have a small regret wasting money on her when I could have spent it for more weapons and ammunition though.

  6. I lived through the riots (1967) in Detroit and the riots in LA (1992) – both promoted by “out-raged” -raaacists!–guess the color!! promoted by leftist govt and ‘organized’ groups – headed by leftists of both skin colors–(follow the $$$$$ and power)–
Warning- if one looks at Detroit (once called the ‘Parlor City’ )- one will see what is to come to the rest of our cities and the rest of the world!

Oh how I wish it would happen,I cannot stand that idiot. And him being a judge on a talent show.A talent show?Where does he get the balls?http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_unsure.gif

  8. GW says:

Probably all that needs to be said on gun control, self defense, concealed carry, gun-free zones and “assault weapons” is said by Larry Correia in what is by far the best essay yet I have seen on these issues. It is long, but worth the read. Find it at http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/an-opinion-on-gun-control/

  9. KG says:

That’s one hell of an essay! Thanks for the link, GW.

  10. Darin says:

Yes excellent essay, forwarded it to some left leaning friends.

    • Darin says:

I have strange left leaning friends who are otherwise conservative. Two of which spend more on ammo than I do,but both said they were okay with a new gun ban even if it were a forced buy back.WTF????
One of them even says he should pay more in taxes and thinks the upper rate should be 50%http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_unsure.gif

Gotta be brainwashing or maybe a stroke?

      • KG says:

Dunno. But nice as some of them may appear, I would never, never NEVER have a leftist for a friend.
If TSHTF, I wouldn’t want one at the barricades next to me. They’re targets, not friends.
And I’m serious about that. We’re past civil disagreement, these people are the enemies of all that I hold dear.

        • Darin says:

These guys didn’t have the education or upbringing I did.I’m trying to throw them a rescue line while maintaining my grip on the rock of reason.

I do realise though that not everybody can be saved.

  11. Col. Bunny says:

Great minds, and all that. I just posted a couple of items on this excellent piece from Mr. Avrech.

Merry Christmas, friend. I’m sending you some sun screen and magazines to read on the beach.

    • KG says:

And Merry Christmas to you too, Col. B.
And thanks for the sunscreen and magazines. The beach is only 500km down the road and as soon as the holidaymakers go home, we’re off to the coast.
(and I just updated the post, with a link to your excellent comments)
