FFS!

He was just a broadcaster/journo/commenter. And not a particularly good one at that, in Wabbit’s opinion.  Six items on the front page of the NZ Herald!

Ffs ~ you read the Herald!
The obnoxious gnome stuttering and bumbling away was said to be so professional and a genius.
Then again, an Auckland teleprompter reader was said to be the mother of our NZ nation.
I don’t/didn’t get it and never likely will

  2. KG says:

“I don’t/didn’t get it and never likely will”
    Me neither, Peter.

  3. Barry says:

About the only thing of his which I remember was his good story in the Herald about a year ago about the awfulness and ugliness of Waitangi Day now. ( I thought that his only mistake in it was to call Key courageous for attending – whereas I thought he was corrupt for attending. ) Yesterday on Radio Live, Willie Jackson was still sore about Holmes’s telling the truth about that grotesque day!

    • KG says:

Anything that pisses that weasel Jackson off can’t be all bad, Barry.

    • Cadwallader says:

It is interesting that on Australia Day the Aussies go to the beach/cricket match/BBQ and get pissed. While in NZ on our so-called national day the darkies abuse the fuck out of their betters/benefactors and we all are expected to get stirred up with alleged guilt. I enjoy the day as I stay away from the msm, stay at home and get pissed. This year we are due for 31c in the shade here so the beer will flow easily. I plan to avoid work on Thursday, Friday…..

Everyone’s opinion of Holmes is their business; opinions are just that, opinions. So, for what it’s worth, I give you mine. I met Holmes back in the 70s when I was selling his house in Grey Lynn, Auckland. I was very “green” (too inexperienced to know which side was up) then so was he but he impressed me then as a bloke more interesting than average. So I kept an eye on his career. So many tedious, social climbing conformists considered him outrageous, it was socially mandatory to loathe Holmes, that I thought, fuck those boring “white on white and beige interior designer types “and the Prius they rode in on. He was cringemaking at times but he had energy and guts and he understood human frailty because he realised his own.

  5. KG says:

Outrageous? I just found him bland and creepy, MM.

  6. nigel201065 says:

Meet the little creep while working for Noel Leeming (about 15yrs back), from that time on hated the stuck up little arsehole had the attitude that I’m on tv so my shit don’t stink and please don’t get me started on the little shit that have grown up to be a convicted drug user and receiver

  7. Oswald Bsatable says:

NZ for you. Some pillock drops dead and the media (who previously hated him) are crying crocodile tears over the dead meat…

  8. Cadwallader says:

I didn’t actively dislike him, I just could never be bothered with him. I suspect he was just another self-aggrandiser playing an “everyman” card.

  9. mistress mara says:

So Cadwallader you did not watch his programs so as to detest his existance?

    • Cadwallader says:

No, I didn’t watch him on TV but heard him on Newstalk from time to time….did I mention “detest?”

  10. MvL says:

The title of your post. “FFS” sort of sums it up for me.
    Talk about grief overload.
He was an entertainer ffs. Loved by some, hated by some,
and ignored by the rest. And found “bland and creepy” by at least one.
I never felt the need to “touch the hem of his garments” so to speak.
So you can put me down as an “ignore”.
An insightful post with an interesting anecdote over at
    coNZervtative.

  12. Redbaiter says:

Most often played the part of the dirty mainstream media liberal.

Died in time to escape a lamp post and a piece of rope.

  13. Paul Marsden says:

Sometimes he annoyed me, sometimes I applauded him, but you could barely ignore him. His greatest strength was that he stood up to bullies and for what he believed in. For that I admire him, but have to concede, the media have thrashed his passing to death. I’m all SPH out. Now, RIP
