Hmmmmmm……

‘A Kiwi soldier shot by his own side in Afghanistan is calling for a public inquiry into the firefight that killed two Kiwi soldiers last August…’
The video on the linked page is obviously only part of the story, but to Wabbit it smells of eu de clusterfuck.

I’ve believed for a long time that the best of Kiwi forces are very good indeed.
But there’s another side, confirmed by somebody I know who is currently serving. That is, that the stifling PC/multiculti culture in NZ has also stifled the warrior ethos and troops are being filled with claptrap about cultural sensitivity and “nation building” etc. at the expense of effective combat training.
There are no “good guys and bad guys” in that country, as invaders have found out for a thousand years. The natives don’t give a fuck about nation building, they just fight one another, tribe against tribe and clan against clan. And they unite to kill invaders.
A soldier going to Afghanistan with his head full of PC garbage is at a very serious disadvantage, and it’s no wonder they stand around like a bunch of chooks on valium when TSHTF.

Get our ( Aussie & NZ ) soldiers out of a shithole their own ( Afhgans ) won’t fight. The place is/has/always will be a shithole.Let them kill each other….after all they are only muzzies.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_negative.gif

Too right. Either be in it to win and do what’s necessary to achieve that, or leave. Better still, don’t go there in the first place.

  3. Caleb says:

Definite cluster fuck, a bit like the soldier who drowned because his life jacket couldn’t inflate and the boat broke down.. wtf!
As an ex 1RNZIR soldier, if feel as if I can make that comment…
The problem starts in Wellington and with the Officers running the show. It ends up with very capable kiwi soldiers, under trained and under equipped. Its always been a career for Officers and a ‘revolving door’ training facility for the rest. There is so much pressure on our small SAS, for deployments (coupled with training), because the gulf between them and the rest of the service is huge.

    • KG says:

Thanks Caleb–that’s consistent with what I’ve been hearing for a long time. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif

  4. Oswald Bastable says:

What the fuck was that I just watched?

    • KG says:

My reaction exactly, Oswald. I had to watch it a couple of times, and it still smelled more of deer caught in the headlights than trained reaction to a contact.

    • Pascal says:

There is no Hmmmm about any of this. Your “public servants” are all in sync with the Sustainability crowd. Anyone who is normal and not yet part of the new stone age culture is their enemy. Until all of us targets in their sites start telling them in no uncertain terms that we find their plans for us to live in fear and fight with each other rather than cut their filthy cowardly throats if given half a chance, they will continue to act like you don’t give a damn, and maybe they’ll get around to you last. Musical chairs, where 6.5 billion chairs are slowly reduced to something “sustainable” — as low as 50 million.

Dammit why isn’t this commonly fought over?

It is not safe to follow leaders who never have a harsh word to say about Malthusian, Utilitarian, and Green nutcases. (But somehow find a warm spot in their hearts for Islam.)

    Now watch brass cover arse…..

    • Caleb says:

Just read the article and I’m not surprised. Sounds like there was no enemy there, at all…

Mr Wilson was a 1st Lt in 1RNZIR when I was there. We were kind of surprised when he made SAS, but I’m sure they don’t drop standards for Officers. One thing is sure, they will make it better and Mr Page has two less people to back him up.

I’ve never heard of ‘spec fire’.
We would have got in the shit for firing at nothing, let alone how confusing this made the situation, just sounds like a disorganized cluster fuck.

      • Oswald Bastable says:

We never had enough ammo to shoot at nothing

        • KG says:

What’s it supposed to do, anyway? Let an enemy who already knows you’re there know you’re there?
Irritate him enough that he opens fire?
          Scare the pants off him?

    Clusterfk is right KG.

These guys fell for the oldest trick in the guerrilla playbook. Afghan One goes into arrest a bombmaker and gets pinned by Terry. NZ relief column comes galloping up – straight into the main ambush, set I might add in a narrow valley with sides so steep heavy weapons on the vehicles can barely be elevated high enough.

Independent squads operating in close prox without the training and sig co-ord to work in unison.

Clusterfk. I agree with the view that NZ forces sent to hot war zones need better pre-deployment training. And if that means they have less time to spend practicing stone age war dances, well tough. Training saves lives. PC takes them.

If they had had a mortar up there…
