calicivirus?

Wabbit has been very unwell for a few days now and it’s not getting better.
Hence the sparseness of posts.

Oh crap, that stuff, yup it will make you feel bad for sure.

I have developed a belief that raw,”organic”produce has a lot to do with it.These days the farms tend to fertilize the crops with fresh manure,as in used same week as it’s made. That was a definite no no when we were growing produce on the farm.It was never applied to the crop itself, but to the field in the fall and turned under to go though a heat over winter.

That’s why we are seeing a lot more cases of Norwalk,Listeria,E Coli and enteroviruses in general IMHO.That and restaurants that hire third worlders and drug addicts for food preparers. One thing I have learned is if you’re in a restaurant and your waiter has dirty fingernails or is wearing rings on their fingers go elsewhere. If they allow open health violations like that imagine what’s going on in the kitchenhttp://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif

One of the worst restaurant kitchens I ever saw for that was a very expensive French eatery. The food was great though. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

  2. Michael in Nelson says:

I don’t care what you’ve got or what you call it, just get better!

  3. Darin says:

    Ya,that too!

  4. tranquil says:

    Sorry to hear this KG.
    Best wishes to Wabbit.

If it’s any help…… maybe she can try a hot lemon drink with some manuka honey in it (you can get that honey from most supermarkets here). It can be expensive (and the taste is quite strong) but it’s *great* stuff.
It kills damned near any bugs and it’s great with helping to heal cuts too.

    • KG says:

Thanks, Tranquil, but it seems not to be a cold.
      I’ll get some honey tomorrow.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif

        Ok – sounds good!

Oh,and apologies from me – I had a “mental oops” in thinking that Wabbit was your wife (hence the “she” in my post). I didn’t make the obvious connection (Wabbit – Crusader Rabbit)…..

    @KG:

I recall when I came back to the States after three years overseas in various places in Asia and the Pacific in late 1969, I ended up in an Army hospital for three weeks in bed with a flu-like bug that the docs couldn’t figure out, which made me sicker than a dog.

Anyhow, after a few weeks I suddenly started feeling much, much better. The docs gave me a physical and said I was the picture of health :!: Then they marked me down as “fit for duty.”

My opinion was the illness had to do with the climate change from the Far East to the States.

I note that you and yours recently moved from the deserts of Queensland, Australia to the temperate climate of New Zealand, so maybe you’re both feeling under the weather because your bodies are making an adjustment.

    KG –
On the theory that “booze cures anything” check out the *great* range that Prenzels Distillery (in Nelson) has –
    http://prenzel.com/shop/Prenzel+Bar.html

I’ve tried their fruit schnapps and liqueurs and they are *excellent*.
Highly recommend the peach schnapps and butterscotch schnapps and the butterscotch cream (mmmmmm…..).

I reckon that if you try any of their stuff you won’t be disappointed.

    • tranquil says:

Whoops … I said Prenzels were in Nelson – they’re actually in *Blenheim*. My bad.

      • KG says:

There’s a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta sitting on the shelf here. I was saving it for Gatt, but at this rate we may have to crack open the emergency medical supplies…
Just kidding, I have’nt had so much as a beer for days.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif

Relax, ya blue-painted barbarian. If I can find a reliable way to get it delivered without it being monstered , I will.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_smile.gif

            • The Gantt Guy says:

Well, ’tis the nectar of the Gods. Known to cure everything from the common cold to a broken leg, right through to ebola and calicivirus.

So, if the pain gets too much or you notice your vital organs liquefying and making their way to the outside of your body, take a swig and you’ll be fine. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

  9. the conservative says:

They haven’t quarantined you in a tent in a car park without a shower then?

    • KG says:

NZ bureaucrats are’nt that advanced, Terry. Just like their Aussie partners in crime.
It’ll take numerous conferences, consultations with the affected “stakeholders”, more conferences and agreement on the cultural sensitivities of those quarantined.

  10. mistress mara says:

Terry, behave yourself. KG, I hope she is better soon. Having a loved person being crook is hard to bear.

  11. nominto says:

    ditto# above…Get well soon, KG

  12. Robertv says:

Sorry to hear you’re in bad shape KG.

You just feel awful or you have a fever as well? As long as you don’t forget to eat and to drink (water). Your body needs something to fight with.

    • KG says:

Hmmm……your advice matches that of my Senior Medical Advisor, Robert.
I found out today it’s just pneumonia, not some dread imported superbug. So I got out in the fresh air when I got home and split some firewood. And had a cigarette while I did it.
