About bloody time, Tony!

‘There will be no more “benefit of the doubt” for those who may be seeking to harm Australia, says Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who believes Australians are being played “for mugs”.
Abbott took to his official Youtube channel this morning to ramp up his rhetoric on national security.
“It’s clear to me, that for too long, we have given those who might be a threat to our country the benefit of the doubt”, he said on the video, uploaded this morning.
“There’s been the benefit of the doubt at our borders, the benefit of the doubt for residency, the benefit of the doubt for citizenship and the benefit of the doubt at Centrelink.  (Australia’s welfare agency. kg)
“And in the courts, there has been bail, when clearly there should have been jail.
“We are a free and fair nation. But that doesn’t mean we should let bad people play us for mugs, and all too often they have: Well, that’s going to stop.”…’

Harper and Netanyahu have for too long been lonely voices. I’m sure Abbot will be welcomed to the club. I have no hope for Keys.

Denmark got their awaking call today, let’s see if they take heed.

    • Col. Bunny says:

Taking heed just won’t happen. Western voters simply will not support the salvationist parties. The FN, Sweden Dems, PVV, BNP, UKIP, etc. have made inroads but apparently you … can’t … hurry … these … things. HMOG! If having soldiers beheaded in the street and ordering them to wear mufti on the streets for fear of attack isn’t a fecking roman candle up the British nose I can’t figure out what would be.

My usual rant, mawm. Americans are just as clueless.

      • mawm says:

Not really. There seem to be more Americans who are speaking out about the threat of islam (and the left) than there are Brits doing so. They have been more successfully cowered by he threat of being called a racist than you.

        • Darin says:

Mawm, there are 10 times as many Americans speaking out as Brits, simply because there are ten times as many Americans as Brits.
The average American male may know what’s going on,but without any leadership there won’t be anything solidifying from it.Our leadership on both sides apparently doesn’t care, they have the best security money can buy,so if terror attacks on the streets become normal as the weather it wouldn’t surprise me and nothing will be done about it on a national level just like the UK,unless it is to take away rights from non-muslims.

    Words.

I just watched a news article on the attack stating that there were two attackers and that they had automatic weapons.

    One dead, several wounded.

Now, I hate to be an armchair quarterback but I like to think that if I had an automatic weapon, a jihad, and a similarly armed friend the result would be quite different.

The difference between this attack and the one on Hebdo is pretty obvious. These were no professionals.

    • KG says:

      “These were no professionals.”
True. And that makes this kind of attack more of a worry, not less because it’s harder to head off spur-of-the-moment attacks.

      • Darin says:

The Hebdo attack was professional,in fact so professional because it was carried out by a known to the authorities practicing cell some members of which had already served time in jail for previous acts.
That should have been a wake up call that if the government of France was incapable of stopping a known group operating inside it’s own borders, how do they expect to stop the lone jihadi nut?
I look for both types of attacks to become much more common and our “leaders” will expect us to just to absorb it all and condition us to just think it’s normal.

  4. Oswald Bastable says:

Well, ya talk the talk, but do ya walk the walk…

    • KG says:

We shall see……given some of the lunatics in the Senate, he may not be able to.

      • Wombat says:

The dumb bastard missed the chance at a double dissolution election.

Now it’s simply a matter of time before he collapses under the weight of eternal leadership speculation.

        Behold, Coup d’media.

        • KG says:

I thought at the time that a DD election was worth the gamble. His advisors obviously thought otherwise.
There is no way any conservative government can fight the ABC and the rest of the media.
Unless and until the ABC is dealt with, any government to the right of the loony left is going to have to face the reality that the ABC effectively campaigns for the left.

  5. You know, I’ve been looking for escape hatches and safe harbors, and every now and then my eye lights on Australia. You blokes have a better chance than we do, being as apart from it all as you are. Make good use of it and I might join you.

    • KG says:

It’s a wonderful country, Francis but there’s no equivalent to the first and second Amendments, unfortunately.

      • Wombat says:

        Silver linings.

A mere four percent of the nation owns a firearm.

Of that, three in four are benchrest shooters or farmers.

Theoretically that puts me, with little more than a lever action 30/30 and a wheelgun, in the top percentile of tactical high speed low drag operators in the nation.

You know what they say. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Anyhoo, the 2A isn’t what it used to be. I can imagine zombie Jefferson rising from the grave and asking “why is 90% of everything lethal your standard infantryman carries forbidden to the common man?”

  6. Ronbo says:

Wombat – as usual – has it right: words…Words…WORDS :!:

This is all we get from our politicians: WE WANT TOTAL WAR ON ISLAM :!:

The Muzzies say we are Crusaders….well – by God :!: – let’s give them a CRUSADE they won’t forgot

  7. Brown says:

Did Abbott mention the dirty word though? Until he does that he’s just another apologist.

  8. Ronbo says:

    This is so absurd :!:

We are in WW III and our gutless politicians are afraid to call the enemy by his name, “Islam” or even, “Radical Islam.”

At least G. W. Bush could muster the courage to call them, “Islamofascists”
