Tribe ‘closes’ city beach

‘Auckland’s Ngati Whatua tribe is closing Okahu Bay beach tomorrow for a tribal event – the first time since it won co-management of the beach in 1991.
…”Spokeswoman Sharon Hawke said the event had been held in previous years on the land reserve behind the beach, but organisers wanted to include water-based activities such as kayaking this year.
A public notice in the East and Bays Courier says the beach will be closed to the public from 6am to 4pm, but Ms Hawke said the tribe would be flexible.
“The backlash from the people thinking what they think around us using our own foreshore has got people prickly, so there is some give and take in that….’
“Never going to happen” Kiwis were assured by the government. “No practical change to your access to beaches” they were told.
Those of us who said they were lying – that this was a theft of every Kiwi’s birthright – were branded as racists, alarmists and liars.
Well, who are exposed as the racists and liars now?

Wait until the “natives” close the entire nation of New Zealand for a tribal event.

I say a putsch by any name is still a putsch.

    Ronbo,

Sooner or later, the masses will putsch back.

I am awfully tempted to turn up there tomorrow with a large picnic rug, sun umbrella and a few beers. If I would ABSOLUTELY refuse to leave. We all should.

If I lived up that way I’d join you. But apathy will rule, as usual. That, and no way to get the message out past the lapdog media.

Just saw in stuff.co.nz that in Christchurch, local Iwi (maories) want the Council to stop allowing people to scatter or bury their ashes in parks and reserves. Some cultural BS.
