‘Blood on Australia’s hands’
Aussie cops accused of dobbing Bali 9 into Indonesian officials.’
According to this, Australian police had information about the plot to import drugs and allowed the perps to leave Australia, tipping off the Indonesian police.
So what?
The perps knew the risks, knew the penalty. I reckon the “war on drugs” is useless, but the Bali 9 were not heroes and they’re not martyrs.

I don’t disagree with your sentiment but question why the Australian authorities ought duck their responsibilities by not dealing to Australian criminals on their own patch? They drugs were, after all, destined for markets in Australia. The damage the drugs would’ve caused is immeasurable but equally the Australian punishment would’ve been long and arduous although not being a capital one. These pricks knew the risks, took the risks for $$$$ and intended that the damage occur in Australia, therefore it was Australia’s responsibility to deal with them.

Well and good, Cad, except that Australia has an agreement with Indonesia that known smugglers crossing Indonesian borders will be notified to them.
There’s also no guarantee that the drugs (or some of them) wouldn’t have been offloaded in Indonesia.
From the Indonesian point of view, allowing known smugglers to operate without intercepting them would be fraught with all kinds of risks and that country has no obligation to allow them to reach their destination.
What this article suggests is that the Ozcops should have arrested them for conspiracy to import a prohibited drug. Why bother, when they could be caught red-handed at Indonesian expense?

Too bad so sad,but all of them could have gotten jobs making an honest living.

This is similar to the current debate going on about stopping Isis recruits from the west going to the ME to fight. Why not let them go?Good riddance, just don’t let them come back and if possible track them so a Predator drone is waiting for them when they link up with their idiot recruiters.

Tony Abbott’s policy men are not complete buffoons.

Abbott is well aware that Australian sympathy for these two drug-mules is greatly exaggerated. I suspect that his recalling of our ambassador and all that it implies is part of a greater strategy towards aims we can only guess at.

Merely going through the choreographed diplomatic dance. It demonstrates to those Indonesians who are anti-Australian that Australia has been insulted, and to the babbling twitterati in Australia that their mewlings are being listened to in Canberra.
Behind the scenes it will be business as usual.
