‘While You Were Sleeping’

Richard Fernandez:
‘..Nothing in the external world changes in the immediate aftermath of a crash. What changes are the claims on that physical world. The iron rule is: the players never lose a seat, but you may lose yours.  It’s the rest who suddenly awaken to stores that are not theirs, jobs that no longer exist, and sales orders that have been canceled. They go from employed to being unemployed; from solvent to broke.
They’ll ask themselves: “why? why?”  Well now you know why.
…Unfortunately we still live in a world governed by ancient 19th century Marxian ideas, where politicians regard information as infinitely corruptible, in a world where lies are not only common, but the stuff of power, the very sinews of privilege.  A financial crisis occurs when information goes so far out of whack with the physical world the music has to stop, and those without a chair must be booted off.
What a financial crisis does is bring an awakening world face to face with its own falsehoods. Suddenly they are in the nightmare world. But it’s a not a new world at all.  Only the one the players had been constructing all along.’

Wretchard writes so well that I find it maddening that he does not have a staff member to catch the few typos he commits in each of his columns, including the greatest of them.

I have on occassion sent him emails alerting him to some of the most painful to see in a column I liked very much. And he had made corrections after publications. After PJMedia wiped out many of his readers’ comments a few years ago it was far more maddening and I stopped commenting there in protest. Wretchard insisted and had them resurrected because so many of us regulars had left. Additionally, I viewed PJmedia’s new registration and pop-up ads to be so bad that I didn’t reregister for over two years until I had found a super pop-up blocker. As it is I still rarely post there.

Anyway, let me ask you KG to fix one typo up there that is plain obvious but which I find upsetting because it causes a stumble in reading his great prose. I’d alter it this way: “a world where lies are not only common, but the stuff of power, the very sinews [of] privilege. ”

Holy cow! You already did it! You changed or to of. I’m glad you agree that the ideas he commits to words are deserving of our caring enough to help pass them clearly on to others.

“Holy cow! You already did it! ” It kinda hit me between the eyes too when I read it
Like you, I’ve been an admirer of Fernandez for years, Pascal. His is a unique voice. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif
And this article of his certainly gives another perspective on the “naughty Greeks” narrative in most of the media, doesn’t it?

  2. KG says:

    From the article:
‘..The same process of reassignment is happening in China. Last week the Chinese government threw half a trillion dollars in pension funds at the collapsing stock market to buoy it up.’
And it failed. Interesting times we live in……

    • Darin says:

It’s possible that China may be in a worse debit situation than even the US.It’s difficult to tell since they have been manipulating their currency since forever.

When that mess starts to come unglued things will get interesting quick.I wager that when the collapse happens the Chinese people will come out from under Communism and the west will go in under it.

      • KG says:

Yep, that’s pretty much how I see it, Darin.
        Unless war….

        • Ronbo says:

WW III? Hey now, the last world war ended the last Great Depression, did it not?http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

          • Ronbo says:

As for communism to triumph in the West – the thing they need most is money to do the conquest – and when the economy collapses, the various socialist governments of the West will have zip, zero, nada except for the lethal contempt of We The People. Heads will roll. The heads of the various presidents and PMs and their stooges.

            • Andrew Berwick says:

The heads of every bureaucrat, every functionary, and hopefully every state school teacher, state hospital “healthcare worker”, state “social worker” and every unionist too!

Didn’t indonesia managed to rid themselves of communists back in the 60s? Well that needs to happen throughout the whole “Welfare West”

              • Wombat says:

Hope you don’t get hurt in the process. If you’re living in OZ or NZ then you might have trouble finding a doctor after you’ve killed them all. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_scratch.gif

                • KG says:

Berwick is a lunatic. Should he be hit by a car while crossing the street, he will insist that firemen, doctors and nurses provide proof that they’re not on the public payroll before accepting aid and treatment. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_scratch.gif

      • Andrew Berwick says:

The west has been under communism since the 1890s…

        • KG says:

Bollocks. And that comment is so stupid I can’t be bothered dismantling it.

  3. Ronbo says:

So the economic dominoes – “MAED” (Mutually Assured Economic Destruction) – are about to fall everywhere in the world and the International Socialist “Castle In The Air” is about to be blown away by REALITY.

…and the Socialists will say as it happens, “Don’t worry – The World Economic Order is too big to fail.”http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

…and if you believe that canard, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you real cheap. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

    • Andrew Berwick says:

Can only damn well hope so.

The Commies have got it coming, with any luck hanging from the lampposts by piano wire!

      • KG says:

I recently bought a bulk spool of piano wire.
Hemp rope is a fraction of the cost.

  4. KG says:

Economic slavery or economic collapse, the outcome is the same: We the People will foot the bill.
