Yet again, the truth is “racist”:

‘The editor of a local Chinese newspaper has labelled Labour’s claims Chinese buyers are responsible for the spike in real estate prices “racist”…’
One assumes the Chinese government’s ban on foreigners being able to buy property in China is also “racist”. This is yet another example of the West’s (limited) freedoms being used as a weapon against us. Kiwis urgently need to wake up and speak up.The country is being invaded and colonized.
NZ Herald’s property editor:
‘Chinese buyers: We work hard for homes”
Some do. Many others are simply moving the profits of corruption out of China. In any case, it’s irrelevant. Allowing foreign buyers to distort the market to the extent they are cannot be good for NZ. The fact that the Herald is running this item wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that they run a lot of real-estate advertisements.
Would it?

Maybe your not aware of it, but if you want to buy property in China as a foreigner you can’t. So the fact that we allow others to shows we are more open. So the Chinese are more racist than us.

The reality of property ownership in China does not readily compare with that in NZ. In China all buyers regardless of race/background do not acquire a “freehold” title as it is understood in NZ. The ownership which can be obtained is akin to a lease-in-perpetuity. Land always remains the property of the government.
In NZ we have the ability to buy a fee-simple or freehold title. The nature of this is based on the historic notion that an “Englishman’s home is his castle.” So far so good….the greatest advantage of having a freehold property is that once you pay off your borrowings against it your mortgagee will relinquish its powers over the property. Great! Never forget that both during the time you spend paying off the mortgagee and afterwards, you are subject to the Jackboot Johnnies at the local authority who provide minimal services in exchange for payments calculated on the value of the property which you have laboriously paid for and not on the value of the services. The local authority is not a respecter of freehold ownership, rather it is an overlord with menacing powers….powers to dictate what you can do in your “castle.” EG How close to a boundary you can light a brazier, the colour of your letter-box, the height of your fencing, the amount of smoke you may send out of your chimney, the height of your chimney and its alleged likelihood to collapse in an earthquake, the types of garbage you can dispose of rather than recycling, the numbers of vehicle movements you may have at your property, the number of people you may allow to congregate at your property, the insulation you place around your hot water cistern, the % of your land you can build-on, the degrees of shade your building may cast on both 21st June and 21st December each year, your preferred building materials, your positioning of windows….zzzzzzzz….

Which is why we swore to never buy again, Cad.

Still waiting for the freedom folks to come to their senses and just laugh when called “racist” instead of getting all het up about it. 30 million illegals in the US because we were too worried about being “racist”. 9-11 happened because we were too worried about being called “racist”. Obama happened because . . . .

the depth of this hasn’t been fathomed yet- locally I cottoned onto an immigration scam with some large real estate money [foreign] changing hands- but enquiries got me nowhere and could have made some big personal issues for myself.
I figured in the end , that the government is both too stupid and too lazy to do anything about it anyway.
