read the above–thought provoking post –

    consider West Point’s Old Code-
    Duty Honor Country-
    Honor Code at WP-
a cadet may neither lie-cheat- nor steal- nor tolerate those that do–

and the officer’s oath does not include the word president–Constitution – yes- president – no-
    and
Have you noticed how many officers- from all services- who honor their oath have been drummed out !

When I was in the military “Duty, Honor, Country” and the supremacy of the U.S. Constitution was drummed into the heads of ALL RANKS!

In fact, as part of our monthly training schedule, we were given classes – classes for all ranks – on the difference between legal and illegal orders – and warned that, “I was only following orders” was not an acceptable excuse for following the illegal order of an officer of any pay grade to include generals.

Indeed, we were told that any rogue officer who gave an illegal order was subject to immediate arrest by the lower ranks and held in custody for the military police.

There is a good reason why the U.S. military has never even attempted coup against the civilian authority when so many of our Latin American neighbors have often played that game.
