   When I was a kid, my mother had an old yellow mommy cat that was the self appointed “Rodent Control Officer” for the neighborhood – and “Goldie” would bring her dead victims to our back door and deposit them for the inspector – my mother – who would give an extra helping of milk and cat food.

   I gave a home to a kitten. The little murderous beastie started rewarding me with earth worms on my pillow. Living and at least twitching meat was delivered daily, frogs frozen in fear came next, a winged blackbird hopping around the living room was just another day. I thought that the wounded bat would be the extent of his involvement with laying to waste all that moves. The squirrel which he herded in through my kitchen door almost made me burn my bacon. Is there a moral to this story? Yes, there is. The last and final creature he brought home was a bloody great tick on his neck. Try holding down a whirling dervish with razor blades to effectively remove a tick. The assassin buggered off and died. The moral, I dunno, it was the little buggers that got him in the end.
