CZ 452

300px-CZ_452_A_silencer_large I’ve spent some time lately shooting Gecko’s CZ 452 in .17HMR.
Nickel-plated, short, heavy barrel. Fitted with a 2-7 Leupold ‘scope.
The accuracy of the thing is phenomenal. We have a target set up at 130 metres and it shoots tight groups at this distance even in fairly breezy conditions.
I changed ammunition from the popular 17gr. Hornady V-Max (polymer tipped) to CCI Gamepoint 20gr.hollowpoint and the accuracy is unchanged, although penetration is vastly improved.
Drawbacks? A rough bolt action and a bloody horrible trigger straight out of the box.  So, a few hours spent filing and polishing and the action is now smooth and the trigger breaks at less than half a pound. (Yep, it passes the bump test). It’s now a beautifully accurate, relatively quiet all-round useful rifle. I’d recommend it to anybody considering buying a .17 HMR.

When I come to visit you, KG, I will make sure to call first, arrive in the middle of the day, and walk slowly to the front door with my hands in plain sight.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

Good choice. Mine is a CZ 455 in .22 WRM, samey-samey pretty much. CZ makes a great mini-Mauser action. I’m trying to warm up to the .17 HMR but, not yet. Not quite.

Given the choice again, I’d go for the .22WRM if only for the extra legs, Remus. And less affected by wind, too, far as I can tell. 30 or 40 gr. has to be better than 20 gr too, considering muzzle velocities aren’t so different.
The next job is to strip the urethane varnish and give it an oiled finish, just because. :)

I suppose that the best thing about the .22wrm is that only you two and a small handful of the folks on the short bus have them, so it’s never too hard to find ammo. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_whistle3.gif

Can they ship one to me here in England? If so, do they also supply ammo as my local Tesco doesn’t do ammo. Yet.

Make a muslim “friend”, Andy, and you’ll have an AK47 in no time.

      • Ronbo says:

Buy any weapon you like over the Internet, Andy – I would suggest the Colt AR-15 with the 5.56mm 30 round magazine.

I think Amazon does world wide delivery.

Also, you get a 10% discount for living in a gun free zone and a 24 hour delivery service that gets your assault rifle plus the 1,000 rounds of ammunition to your front door days before the local Muzzies find out you have “gunned up” and ready to go Crusader on them. :-)

CZ makes some nice guns, especially considering the price.I looked at a CZ 527 awhile ago in 7.62×39.I liked the gun,had good balance and the stock was a comfortable length. The only thing that put me off were the proprietary mags at $40 a pop.

What’s that big thing at the end of the barrel?

      It’s just a generic pic of a CZ 452, Wombat. Gecko’s rifle isn’t fitted with a suppressor.
There’s one off the Ruger sitting on the desk here, but I’m not a fan of ’em and its never used.
