How an unemployed Westie discredited a key police report on cannabis
‘…Dawson flicks through the data and finds an example; a case where a woman has been admitted to hospital because of birthing complications. The original data shows several different codes associated with obstetrics and a live birth, as well as F122, which is “cannabis dependence”.
But the Maxwell data ignores the other factors, says the “secondary” reason for the woman’s admission was cannabis and attributes the cost of the hospital stay to the drug. “It’s ludicrous,” Dawson says. “It was a birthing matter, it’s got nothing to do with cannabis”.
Elsewhere, he finds a case where someone has spent 240 days in hospital due to prostate cancer – again counted as a “cannabis-related” admission in the Maxwell data. “There’s no study on the planet that makes that link.”
…Using this logic, just over 200 people a year are admitted to hospital because of cannabis. Police had exaggerated the numbers ten-fold…’
Wabbit would be willing to bet that figures on smoking and health are derived in the same fashion.

  1. Oswald Bastable says:

Most of the admissions would be due to SYNTHETIC cannabis.

All part of the grand and necessary war on freedom.

Did I say freedom? Oops I meant drugs.

The grand and necessary war on drugs.

My position on drugs is very simple…I’m an adult and what I choose to ingest is nobody else’s damn business.

You want to poison yourself then you are a moron.

You give it/sell it/endorse it to my Gkids you better have your plot ready.

Spoken like a typical alcohol consumer. Alcohol – of course – isn’t a “drug” according to many anti-drug loudmouths. And the mouths get louder as they consume more of their favourite non-drug….
          Grow up, you wanker.
What part of “what I choose to ingest ” do you not understand?
The world has enough fuckwits making empty threats without us needing to host them here.
          Now piss off, hero.

I sit here reading this while sipping a couple of pints in the pub. I also enjoy my roll ups flavoured by a close relative of hops. Now and then. My choices, my own consequences. I do not visit my occasional hatred or anger on others as a result of MY actions, only upon those who would try the patience of a Saint. Now, if these do-good wankers hadn’t conspired to destroy civil/polite society we could all get stoned and still know how to behave. ‘Nuff sed.

All that concerns me is that thousands of kids born every year are handicapped to some extent by their mothers having taken drugs during pregnancy.

    • KG says:

That’s perfectly true and no program, no intervention by politicians and bureaucrats is ever going to change it.

  4. mara says:

I try but cannot counter your response with reliable stats.

    • KG says:

I don’t have any stats to back up my claim either, Mara. But there’s no evidence I’m aware of that shows the “war on drugs” is working.

  5. mara says:

I try but cannot counter your response with reliable stats. It is obvious that the “war” on drugs has achieved little and that gangs flourish on drug profits. However I see deregulation of drug taking as no solution to the incapacity of society to control the numbers of mainly young people who are rendered unemployable partly by their drug taking. I care about drug losers because our taxes pay for their wasted, useless lives. I don’t know the answer

It’s not really a war,it’s more of a diversion.Nancy Reagan’s “Just say no” approach was working, educating kids very early on to the damage drugs cause worked because it attacked the problem at the cultural level. The so called war on drugs as it’s waged by law enforcement is just a tool to condition the public into accepting the police state. That and make money.

There have been encouraging signs in the “drug court” experiment model.Instead of the standard fine and send them to jail method, which is nothing but a wasting cycle,Drug court offers the addict a path to self help. The focus is on helping them get and stay clean combined with job and life skills training. It only works for the ones who want to get clean, the old horse to water thing is still in effect.

    • Yokel says:

A person’s attitude to drugs falls into the same camp as their attitude to honesty, decency, fairness, murder, bullying (especially cry-bullying), adultery and fornication. They cannot be enforced by law, they must come from within the person.

That law enforcement can find a space here to insert their bullying presence merely reflects the major failure of society in general to bring their own children up properly. And possibly that law enforcement have already been “got” by the cultural marxists.

For more, search on-line for “Frankfurt School”. To my mind, their defining quote is: “We will make Western civilisation so rotten that it stinks”. That way they will enable the takeover by their favourite Hard Left dictator.

  7. mara says:

Without obstruction, water will always sink to the lowest level possible. It is a fact of nature and physics.

    • KG says:

Like you, I don’t think deregulation is the answer. What Darin describes may not be glamorous or immediately, spectacularly effective but it’s probably the only available remedy.
The threat of severe punishment doesn’t seem to deter dealers or their addict customers.

  8. KG says:

We also seem to be missing a point here:
It’s perfectly possible for adults to use all kinds of drugs responsibly and in moderation. And they have done just that for millenia.

  9. mawm says:

If only they attacked obesity with the same zeal……. I too don’t have any figures but would hazard a guess that there are more hospital admissions with complications of obesity than all the other vices added together ……and some.

    • andy5759 says:

Sugar is marketed on the open market and is taxed. Cannibal Raisins are sold on the alternative market (see how PC I am, no black marks here), so cannot be taxed. Government hates the idea of dollar bills moving without a slice for them. Hence, The War On Drugs. The Taxman is The Policeman. The Policeman becomes the Taxman. Now, where’s me papers?
