That’s a pile-o-wood alright and it’s been a few years since I’ve seen a Massey 210.For some reason the Massey compact tractors never caught on here as well as Kubota and Yanmar. We had a Massey 135 with the tree cylinder Perkins diesel that was bullet proof, dam good machines.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

This one is made in Japan, Darin, which surprised me. Neat little 2cyl diesel.
A very kind person has loaned us the tractor and attached log-splitter to do the job. Which is just as well — swinging a hand splitter all day would be killing stuff.

Yep,the introduction of the compact tractors in the early 80’s marked a turning point in western agricultural manufacturing. All of the big six here,John Deere,Ford,IH,Case,Allis Chalmers and Massey stopped production of their small tractors as the cost of the finished product out stripped the market.

That’s when JD,Ford and Massey started importing rebagged Yanmar and Hinomoto tractors in and the other three either dropped out of the market,or went broke all together. There was a time when Allis Chalmers had huge plants in Milwaukee and Minneapolis, now there are no jobs and nothing but vacant lots there.
One of my personal favorites was the Allis Chalmers G,the ultimate garden tractor-http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

The picture reminds me of Lawrence County, Ohio in the early 1960s where I went to high school many years ago – I recall making mucho dinero with a classmate – who owned a beat up old 50s something Ford pick up truck – cutting firewood in the fall for the high rollers in (believe or not) Beverly Hills in Huntington, West Virginia – just across the Ohio River.

That’s true in your part of the Earth winter is coming. How was the El Niño summer?

Hello, is this the Sheriff’s Office?’

‘Yes What can I do for you?’

‘I’m calling to report ’bout my neighbor Virgil Smith….He’s
hidin’ marijuana inside his firewood! Don’t quite know how he gets it inside them logs , but he’s hidin’ it there.’

‘Thank you very much for the call, sir.’

The next day, the Sheriff’s Deputies descend on Virgil’s house. They
search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but; find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave.

Shortly, the phone rings at Virgil’s house.

‘Hey, Virgil! This here’s Floyd….Did the Sheriff come?’

    ‘Yeah!’

    ‘Did they chop your firewood?’

    ‘Yep!’

    ‘Happy Birthday, buddy!’
