The Global Failure of Globalism

Can we survive it’s collapse?

Daniel Greenfield-

“To Merkel and Obama, returning to pre-globalization times was every bit as mad as going back to the caves. Globalization had become synonymous with civilization. And its prophets, like Thomas Friedman, traced back its rise to the fall of the Berlin Wall in the city where Merkel and Obama were chatting.

But globalization didn’t bring down the Berlin Wall. Nationalism did. The pro-democracy activists wanted a country where the people had a voice. That’s the opposite of globalization in which there are no nations and only the influential figures of various stripes have any kind of impact.”

Yeah, well Globalism is just a fancy 21st century word for Feudalism! Talk about reactionaries! The Globalists want to be the big robber barons living well in their gated communities while we “little people” play the serf and bow to the Lord of the Manor, as he and his Lady Fair roll by us in their armored limos…Yes, they hate us nationalists! And they hate “one man, one vote” and this here thing called representative democracy and the very idea of a free republic!

I’ll tell you true – oh mighty Globalists – we hate you and we will destroy you! We will burn you to ashes and then burn the ashes – you are history – but too stupid to understand the head on your shoulders won’t be there much longer.

So eat, drink and be merry Globalists….while you can.

That article made sense. It seems that if we are inherently tribal maybe its best to keep the competing tribes outside our border (remember borders?) rather than fight with them inside our own back yard. That doesn’t mean we don’t have immigration but it does mean we pick what fits.

“It is unthinkable that the indigenous European population should adapt themselves to the refugees. We must do away with such nonsensical political correctness. The refugees should behave like guests, that is, they should be polite, and they certainly do not have the right to choose what they want to eat. Europe and Germany in particular are undergoing an identity crisis. There is a deep chasm between what people think and what the media tell them.”

Globalism. Sounds like a nice word, but no-one knows what it really means. It’s a bit like another word “internationalization” (kokusai-ka) that was all the rage in Japan 25 years ago. It was in the newspapers and on TV all the time, and yet no-one knew what it really meant.
One of the meanings of “kokusai-ka” was to open up Japanese society more to international companies and foreign tourists. This was at a time in the early 90s when some of the venerable old Japanese firms/banks were on the ropes and really needed an infusion of American capital and business know-how.
Globalization / internationalization have their good points and bad points. Too much insularity and you end up with a society that is distrustful of and hateful towards foreigners. Too much German-style open-the-borders and you end up with a society that is distrustful of and hateful towards foreigners.
It’s all a balancing act, and the very first step out on the tightrope is for the State to gain the understanding and the support of its people before outsiders are allowed in large numbers. How hard can that be to understand?

  5. Odakyu-sen, from the point of view of immigration, yes I agree, no one knows what it means. But other than immigration, I’m pretty sure I do know what it means. It means reduce and eventually abolish tariffs. It means reduce and eventually abolish any and all barriers for investment. You can invest in another country’s property, businesses etc. with no barriers whatsoever.

It means the World Trade Organisation and GATT.
