Yes it is big. If the case is won, then people will start to sue left, right and center, and bring these people out of business. What usually happens, is people will settle before it gets to court to stop it from happening. Too late, you’ve done it to, too many people already to cover it up.

      • Darin says:

As with many SCOTUS ruling there is a potential danger here.Namely that any broad,ill-defined ruling will be applied in a blanket fashion and end up curtailing free speech online even more.
Personally I think they are jumping the gun and short circuiting the rightful work of the free market and congress.Facebook,Twitter and Youtube have all taken a massive hit in the bank account and it’s shows no sign of letting up.
The problem I see is that this is a very tricky problem.Like it or not Google etc is still a private business and they offer a service that is voluntary, they do have the right to restrict access to their business to people that violate their rules…..just the same as we do here at CR.
See where I am going?CR could be sued by some lefty fuckwit I kick to the spam can, then legally I would have to allow them to post their retarded bullshit or face a lawsuit,or shut CR down.Of course I would never comply and would simply eradicate any law firm that pushed paper at me,but you see my point?

I think it’s more complex than that Darin, but right now all I want is more coffee and a smoke. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_mail.gif

        • Warren Tooley says:

Ok so Darin, I think I know what your saying. How about then people need to be upfront with the restrictions? That if you are a right wing platform as long as you say that your ok. And it needs to be said in clear language, no gobblegook.

2ndly if you are a big platform, you have to have an alternative. So if you have 1,000 subscribers, then you must set up a left wing platform, that you can direct people to.

It would have the same articles, but only those on the left would have access to it and someone else would administer it. I’ve been reading an economist about anti-trust, and about dividing corporations to create competition, so that’s where my head is at.

What I’ve said is just a shot in the dark, I don’t know how helpful/unhelpful it is.

          • Warren Tooley says:

It would mean you’d have right wing facebook, left wing facebook, and centre facebook.

Why there’s no equivalence between Facebook and CR:
    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/02/facebook-mark-zuckerberg-platform-publisher-lawsuit

CR openly bans those from one side of politics in order to maintain a level of civility and intelligent debate. The item at the top of the sidebar makes that clear.
CR has no shareholders and is private property. It also does not harvest and sell the details of commenters.
Of course there’s much more to this, but CR consists of people exercising their right to free speech and does not have any obligation to provide a platform for people we regard as an ill-mannered enemy.

    • Michael in Nelson says:

If anyone on the Left had a rational argument for any of their positions/policies, I’m sure a well mannered discussion would be welcome here.

NAAA, who am I kidding? The Left have no rational (i.e. backed up by facts and/or historical success) argument for anything they profess.

        • Warren Tooley says:

KG, this is exactly what I mean. If facebook had said from the start, we are a left wing group, then we would have no right to complain. The reality is they make everybody feel welcome at first, and then tell those who are on the right they are wrong.

If they had just told us they are communists, and only communists joined this would be different, than what they are doing now.

Same with You Tube, if I knew that my videos would get censored, and I knew there was a different platform, I may have just never minded about You Tube.
