Trump Administration helps broker a peace treaty between Israel and the UAE-
President Donald Trump announced Thursday morning that Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had reached a peace deal and would achieve the “full normalization” of relations, the first peace agreement between Israel and any Gulf Arab state.
It’s a good move politically on a number of levels. The Israeli Left has been making life miserable over the impending granting settlements in Judea and Samaria with Israeli sovereignty. This puts it off again. I don’t know anyone who’d be happy if they were those settlers right now.
Tensions there will eventually ease. I say this for two reasons-
I think the money that has been flowing from Saudi to the Palestinians is about to dry up.
And there was a poll in Gaza of all places where the majority favored a single state solution if it included the possibility of Israeli citizenship.
This deal with the UAE has two main drivers. One that the Arabs realize the oil business isn’t going to last forever and tourism won’t save them either. It’s already taken a huge hit with the decline in global demand since the Whuflu.
The second reason is Iran, for all the usual reasons. With Trump, our presence in the ME will be drawn down, he already has reduced our footprint there by bringing troops home and not getting sucked into Syria. Saudi Arabia knows this, they also know that Israel is the only other competent military force in the region and of course the enemy of my enemy is my friend comes into play as well. It is not well known, but SA and Israel have been running joint exercises and war gaming together for awhile now. Iran is the lynch pin and the driver of all things evil in the ME. Taking them out, or at minimum, regime change is in everyone’s best interest.
Apparently there are more deals to come from other gulf states.
