    @KG:

    Great minds think alike!

Chamberlain is one of my favorite U.S. Civil War heroes.

Speaking of General Chamberlain, I got to meet the man who made him famous in the 20th century, Mike Shaara, who wrote “The Killer Angels” a factional book about Gettysburg with Chamberlain presented as the leading hero and savior of the Union.

This book in turn inspired the movie “Gettysburg” that starred Jeff Daniels in the Chamberlain role in the youtube film clip you have posted.

BTW, as is well known on this website, I have predicted a Second U.S. Civil War that may start in reaction to the results of this presidential election, just like CW I started as the result of the election of Lincoln to office in 1860.

I’m not the only one thinking along these lines.

You certainly are not alone in believing there is a imminent civil war!

    • The Gantt Guy says:

Ronbo, it’s a fairly safe bet that when the Magic Negro is voted out of office in about 3 weeks, his zombies and bots will riot like there’s no tomorrow. But, will that necessarily mean the start of CW II, or will it, like Watts in the 60s and LA in the 80s, mean they tear up their own neighborhoods and leave the rest of the country relatively unscathed?

And, should their massive vote fraud programme be successful and the Unicorn Hover-Pony is re-elected, will that automatically mean the start of a patriotic insurgency?

I read “Killer Angels” Ronbo. Somebody who used to be an officer in the 101st Airborne sent it to me and he said that Chamberlain’s “hinge” is still studied.
I dunno about civil war..but I can see how widespread outbreaks of rioting could easily happen–and how the reaction to that rioting may be crushed by SWAT teams and the National Guard.

  3. Brian Smaller says:

I always thought of Chamberlain as a reluctant warrior. A fascinating character.

  4. KG says:

I first became interested in the Chamberlains via boatbuilding, of all things, Brian. The Chamberlains were famous in Maine as boatbuilders and designers and I wanted to build a Chamberlain dory, which is a fairly difficult small boat to construct.
One thing led to another…..as it does.

I am a Civil War buff – if I lived in the States I would be a reenactor. Here, I have to settle with reading, movies, docos and wargaming.

Then you need to talk to Contempt..he’s an expert on several aspects of the subject. I’ll ask him if I can give you his email addy if you like.

General Lee attended the USMA- West Point-and even served as Superintendent-at USMA–
Many were surprised when he took the ‘mantel’ of Commanding General of the Confederate Army–

General Grant also attended- the USMA – West Point-

    Both great men
I am writing a brief over-view of the HIStorical basis — from the Revolutionary War -to the Civil War – to ………today’s “War”–

More later- got to get out and plant some flowers- trying to work around this frayed Achilles tendon..
