Why is an old old trick still working so well?
Someone may shout that out to you, and when you look as is your natural reaction, something else happens that you’re not aware of or expecting. Maybe someone plays a joke on you or your wallet gets stolen.
Socialists have been slowly and incrementally stripping us of our liberty for some decades now. How have they done it? Well, the old trick above is a big part of their success.
Feminism, racism, abortion, homosexual rights, global warming, environmentalism, road safety and speeding, the “war on drugs”, Treaty of Waitangi, indigenous rights, multiculturalism and so many more issues the left have fabricated deliberately to distract us. While we have been distracted, they have remained intent and on course to convert NZ from a prosperous country populated by hard working and independent people into a one party totalitarian state full of welfare dependents, (both individual and corporate), beneficiaries, government workers and a population possessed of a mindset entirely different to fifty years ago.
While we’ve been busy scrapping among ourselves over the above issues, the left have infiltrated our schools and universities, our media and our bureaucracies and taken power as completely as if they had invaded with an armed force.
Whereas there may be a case for being concerned about some of the above issues, none are so important as the degree of liberty we have given up or the lack of diversity that exists in our political options. Why anyone would want to downgrade the priority of these matters baffles me. I guess I’m just not so easily fooled as some people. If someone shouts at me to look over there, it usually alerts me that I’m about to be fooled or robbed. Funny ain’t it that so many apparently intelligent people are still sucked in by such an old trick.
The only task that matters right now is removing the left from power, and only when that has been achieved do we have the resources to begin any debate or action over any of the matters I list in my third paragraph. If we don’t first break the left’s stranglehold on discourse, then whatever our views may be on the above issues, and even if in the end they are only distractions, they’re certain to be decided the way the left want them to be.
