From an article on the decline of decency:
‘Exhibit A: Sydney shock jock and former host of Australia’s Got Talent Kyle Sandliands. A man whose willingness to hit below the belt and appeal to the lowest denominator at every opportunity has brought him equal parts success and hot water.
Yesterday it was reported that Sandilands and fellow 2DayFM on-air staff would have to attend mandatory decency classes, to raise the standards of on-air behaviour. It’s part of new licence conditions, imposed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
Under the proposal, Sandilands and co will have to adhere to a new set of rules including nine banned swear words. They’re also banned from discussion of sexual acts or racist abuse, and any other words or phrases that could be deemed demeaning to people with disabilities.
“Deemed” by whom? A pack of unelected people who presume to speak for the rest of us, that’s who. And the braindead writer of the article seems utterly unaware of the free speech issue involved here.
Don’t like Sandilands? CHANGE THE EFFING STATION.
