    ‘Whaanga’s offending stretches back to 2006, including burglary, theft, resisting arrest and indecent assault. He served a short prison sentence in early 2010.
    In July that year, he and an accomplice committed aggravated robbery. Whaanga punched the victim in the head multiple times before taking $68. For that he earned his first strike in December 2010 and was sentenced to jail for two years and one month.
    He was freed on parole in April last year. The Parole Board said he had behaved well in prison, where he had resided in the Maori Focus Unit. He had completed a drug programme and a Maori therapeutic programme and was released on a number of conditions for six months.
    Four months later he committed two aggravated robberies with two separate accomplices.
    ….Rethinking Crime and Punishment spokesman Kim Workman said the public needed to think about the cost of locking someone up for 14 years for robbing a boy of a cap and a cellphone. (bold mine. Workman is a dishonest prick)
    While some will say Whaanga will not reoffend if he knows he’s on his third strike, no one knew what he was likely to do (so, according to this moron, it’s better that the thug be left free to prey on the public. kg) given that about 40 per cent of young offenders had neuro-disability disorders such as foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, for which they were not tested, Workman said…’

    Here’s an idea–let’s start locking up the apologists for thuggery.

    Same identical problems we have here.Our local jails and prisons turned to crap when they stopped prison labor.When we had chain gangs the streets were never cleaner,the grass never shorter and the jail house never emptier.
    Some people just can’t or won’t behave themselves unless they are forced to.Liberals need to get over pretending that these common street thugs are children.

    As Sheriff Joe Arpio once said in an interview about how he runs his prison-“It’s a word people don’t like to hear anymore,it’s called Punishment.

    Why the hell prisoners no longer have to work is beyond me. Name the one thing most of the assholes are scared of, and that’s work.

    We gave up on punishment 59 years ago in 1954. The then Reformative detention
    Act (prison with hard labour) was repealed and strangely enough social security
    (money for having children) was introduced the same year. This was under
    Sid Holland’s National government. I was just a kid then but I remember my
    father talking about it. Incidently Kim Workman was a onetime Cop which does not
    say much for the usless piece of crap. I believe this was the start of the slippery
    slope.

    Perhaps because the liberal’s demonisation of conservatives requires him to reject those things which have been shown to work, because keeping what works and avoiding change for the sake of change is surely the essence of conservatism.
    Therefore the perp must become the victim, no matter the contortions of logic that requires.
    If conservatives regard something as evil, the idiot liberal has no choice but to reject that judgement and support the evil lest he be seen to agree with the hated enemy.
    And so on……
    That’s what happens when clowns try to defend the indefensible because their ideology demands it.

        I’m Putin’s enemy – He’s a Russian Nationalist who wants (quietly, of course!) the great State of Alaska back into his Russian Republic, and I’m an American Patriot, who wouldn’t mind adding resource rich Siberia to the Union.

        However, the man has hit the nail on the head with his comment about a “guided democracy” (i.e. law & order) being necessary for the common good.
