‘AOS cop acquitted over accidental shooting
A former Hawke’s Bay armed offenders squad member who was charged with accidentally shooting a man while he was arrested and lying face-down on the ground has today been acquitted.
The man who has name suppression had been on trial for three and a half days at the Napier District Court before Judge David Ongley facing one charge of carelessly using a firearm.
The jury returned the not guilty verdict after two hours deliberation.
The court heard on August 16, 2013 the man was unintentionally shot when the AOS member’s M4 Bushmaster rifle went off as he leant forward to help lift the man from the ground.

So, if I forget to check the safety on my firearm and somebody gets shot as a result, that’s a sure conviction for carelessly using a firearm, and would result in a conviction, loss of licence and possible jail time.
A cop, however, is magically immune..
” Received the training ” “front line ” So the boys dont get taught not to load ,leave the safety off , and keep your finger off the trigger , and ALWAYS point the firearm in a safe direction . You all know that citizens cant get a firearms license if you’re that incompetent . So the jury must have absolutely no knowledge !!! maybe they were lead to believe that a fire arm can load itself , disengage the safety ,point and pull it’s own trigger ???
C’mon. He’s only AOS, the best, toughest and most disciplined in the police squad. The rank and file must be completely useless.

The problem with the police in general and the AOS in particular is that they are wannabees, who like to think of themselves as another branch of the armed services. They are closer to the Inland Revenue than the military.
Ever since the Armed Constabulary was disbanded in the 1880s, NZ’s police force has been civilian and not a gendarmerie.
Personally, I think the AOS should be rounded up, put on a plane and tossed out somewhere over Afghanistan or Syria. Then we could all see just how good they are.
