Some interesting reading out of Ohio-

    https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/…9-test-results

“Additionally, she said not every patient tested for COVID-19 actually has that sample tested for the coronavirus. That’s because the sample is first tested for influenza and the respiratory virus RSV.

Gullett said if the sample tests positive for one of those viruses, in most cases it’s not also tested for coronavirus.

While she said it is possible for a patient to have more than one of the viruses, because of limited testing capacity, it’s typically not tested for multiple unless requested by a doctor.”
    ************************************************** ************

And that is the glaring gap in testing and what I believe explains some of the inconsistencies in who is seeing the worst symptoms. I said it way back in the other thread, what if the patients that are the sickest and dying are actually infected with multiple viruses at the same time? That to me would explain the widely varying immune responses. It could very well be that C19 by itself is very mild in most people, but when combined with the seasonal flu or RSV, the combination simply overwhelms the immune system, especially in people with less than average health.

So for my money, if I were sick enough to need a hospital bed, then I would insist on being tested for C19, the Flu and RSV.

Be careful there Darin, talking common sense and trying to infuse logic into the discussion could get you in trouble. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wink.gif

Started a post-apocalyptic science-fiction novel yesterday (audible) whilst building shelves and clothes racks. Most appropriate setting for the times. A bumbling, lonely, young monk struggling through lent in the desert stumbles across the remnants of a fall-out shelter. It’s pretty good so far. A Canticle for Leibowitz.

    China will pay-

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/secretary-of-state-pompeo-world-will-hold-china-responsible-for-what-has-happened

Even if the rest of the world does nothing, China will slip down the drain. It’s being forecast that due to the massive impact on the global economy China’s EXPORTS WILL BE DOWN ANOTHER 40-50% by the third quarter.

That is huge, only questions are how far can they devalue their currency to try and offset it and at what point do they start looking to invade their surrounding neighbors?

      Interesting numbers from Italy-

      https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1201971219303285

      Results
We estimated excess deaths of 7,027, 20,259, 15,801 and 24,981 attributable to influenza epidemics in the 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17, respectively, using the Goldstein index. The average annual mortality excess rate per 100,000 ranged from 11.6 to 41.2 with most of the influenza-associated deaths per year registered among the elderly. However children less than 5 years old also reported a relevant influenza attributable excess death rate in the 2014/15 and 2016/17 seasons (1.05/100,000 and 1.54/100,000 respectively).

        And some more on Italy-

        http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/03/italian-doctors-note-high-covid-19-death-rate-urge-action

“A change in strategy on Feb 25 that limited testing to patients who had severe signs and symptoms also resulted in a 19.3% positive rate (21,157 of 109,170 tested as of Mar 14) and an apparent increase in the death rate—from 3.1% on Feb 24 to 7.2% on Mar 17—because patients with milder illness were no longer tested, the doctors said.”

Trying to find the reference, but it was claimed that the elderly in Italy have been dying at a rate of 3,000 per day-normally, before C19

        • mawm says:

A 19.3% positive rate on the severely ill is extremely low! What’s going on with this disease?….or the testing?

The varied death rates in different countries must be related to the testing policy just as is the exponential growth in numbers as each country gets up to speed with testing their population. Those doomsday graphs that the media so like to publish reflect this rather than a sudden catastrophic spread in the populations.

This is an interesting read although there is a lot of medical terminology and some medical knowledge is needed to fully understand it. I think the author is being a bit overdramatic for what are essentially low mortality rates.

‘Senate Homeland and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told Just the News on Thursday night he plans to investigate why the medical community was so poorly prepared for this pandemic.

‬“Once the current crisis has passed, Congress must conduct thorough oversight to understand why we weren’t better prepared and take corrective for the future,”’

Not a word about the failure of Congress to do a proper job of oversight for the funds they allocate for these Departments

    Hi Daren,

I have tried to post the same item twice (China ransoming the West over medical supplies) but it has vanished both times without ever appearing here (Open House). Is it lost in your spam folder? http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_unsure.gif

    • Darin says:

I found it, it landed in the trash folder, which happens often with WP which no one at WP seems to be able to fix http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_unsure.gif

      It’s up now, apologies http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_bye.gif

“Cops were seeking to arrest Marshall’s alleged attacker on upgraded charges.
She has a record of 17 previous arrests, many for trespassing, sources said.”

So this is NYC now, apparently you can punch an elderly woman in the face hard enough to knock her on the floor and it’s fine? What a shithole NYC has become thanks to the leftist d-bags that run it.

Apparently a major symptom of COVID-19 is that you think your shit don’t stink.

The more a government tries to control the population, the more the SHTF when it finally loses control.
