NZ Greens horsecrap.

‘The Green Party has this morning launched an ambitious $2.5 billion plan to generate 100,000 new jobs, with at least half of those to come from a push to grow New Zealand’s renewable energy technology exports to $8 billion a year.
The remainder of the new jobs would come through further Government investment in housing, and “by shifting the drivers for green jobs in the private sector”, co-leader Russel Norman said…’
Apparently these clowns (or criminally dishonest bastards, take your pick) haven’t been reading the news lately. News of “green” companies going belly-up, wasting billions in taxpayer’s money in the process. The “100,000 new jobs” claim is a flat-out lie.
There are no major green energy schemes to my knowledge which don’t rely on massive taxpayer subsidies.
Update: TrueblueNZ does a beautiful job of skewering this idiocy. ‘Watermelon Russell Norman- Still Trying the “Green Jobs” Con’

The crippled Presidency:

‘..What is truly alarming about indications that Democrats are prepared to abandon Obama and make a separate peace with the Republicans is it suggests that even the top Blue leadership cannot reach the President. It cannot wiggle past the cordon sanitaire. They cannot convince him, as someone convinced LBJ, not to run. No one can propose to him, as someone did to Nixon, that the time had come to go. In his own mind the President is still bound for Mount Rushmore. He remembers himself as the Messiah of 2008 even as he has become the tragic figure of 2011. He will hang on, growing ever more desperate and ever more pathetic, and there won’t be a darned thing anyone can do to save him from himself…’                       Belmont Club

Liberal idiot priest:

‘A CATHOLIC priest has given his blessing to three asylum seekers who absconded during a church visit. “Good on ’em,” Paul Webb said. “If I had my way, I’d throw open the doors of the detention centre and say, ‘Out you go’.
….Fr Webb told the Northern Territory News: “I don’t suppose that attitude will win me too many friends.” ‘

Echoes of “liberation theology”…perhaps if this fool had to actually work in a productive job, and watch his taxes being spent on illegal immigrants he’d get a dose of reality. It’s very easy to be compassionate and generous with other people’s money.

Obvious to everybody–except politicians and bureaucrats:

‘Red tape and too many taxes stifle productivity
…..Unfortunately, this government does not understand this. It believes in big government. It believes government knows better than business and individuals how best to conduct their affairs. Labor sees business as the enemy, which can’t be trusted to deliver services and out of which every last drop of tax must be squeezed….’
They don’t give a stuff about productivity, just so long as there’s enough money to fund a vast herd of useless bureaucrats. Like cockroaches after a nuclear holocaust, the bureaucrats and politicians will survive regardless of the number of businesses they drive to the wall.

‘U.S. Gamers Crack Puzzle in AIDS Research

that Stumped Scientists for Years
In just three weeks, online gamers deciphered the structure of a retrovirus protein that has stumped scientists for over a decade, and a study out Sunday says their breakthrough opens doors for a new AIDS drug design.
The protein, called a protease, plays a critical role in how some viruses, including HIV, multiply. Intensive research has been underway to find AIDS drugs that can deactivate proteases, but scientists were hampered by their inability to crack the enzyme’s structure.
