‘Something rotten in our Commerce Commission’
‘..the Commission’s draft UCLL price is 80 per cent higher than the median price for the same service in the countries we compare ourselves against and 60 per cent higher than the next most expensive country. The outrage is because when the Commission took its first stab at UCLL pricing at the end of 2012, it picked $23.52/month, but then upped it at the second determination in December 2014 to a whopping $28.22/month…’
No wonder broadband access is so damned expensive here.

On the road to mediocrity:
Australia, today:
‘THE Australian Defence Force has been told it must quickly take on a more culturally diverse range of recruits.
Defence had to use the national depth of cultural and linguistic diversity to improve its war fighting capability. …An example was Female Engagement Teams in Afghanistan who built relationships with local women to allow them to improve their lives in a culturally appropriate manner…’
“Building relationships with local women” is NOT warfighting.
‘A TAMIL refugee who escaped to Australia while on bail for allegedly murdering his pregnant lover cannot be refused a visa despite repeatedly lying to the Immigration Department about his past, a tribunal has found…’
This tribunal is clearly racist, discriminatory and irresponsible.
‘WESTPAC’S new chief executive, Brian Hartzer, is expected to reaffirm the bank’s commitment to have 50 per cent women in senior management by 2017 in his first function for International Women’s Day on Friday…’
Why? And what can this possibly do other than lower standards?
Wolf Howling:
‘Immigration, Liberty, & An Existential Constitutional Crisis’
‘..The most immediate, dangerous and quite likely existential threat to our system of government comes now from our President. For the first time in our Republic’s history, we have a President legislating unilaterally. That is the very definition of tyranny.’
BRAVO!
Mark Levin eviscerates Obama and the GOP at CPAC:
‘Speaking directly to the president, Levin said, “Let me say this to you Mr Obama, you may have a pen and you may have a phone, no doubt an Obama phone, but we have the constitution of the United States. And we, not you, we own that constitution, we own this country, and you Mr Obama do not have any legitimate authority to fundamentally transform what does not belong to you.”..’
On the GOP: “It’s time to remove the old bulls and bring in the patriots”.
The best speech I’ve seen at CPAC, by far.

Francis Porretto:
‘…In the name of God, people, when will it be enough?
It’s no longer sufficient to protest. Those who hold the levers of power have decided that they can ignore our voices. Worse, we can’t even mobilize ourselves for effective resistance. There’s no point in standing on a street corner and crying out a warning if those who hear are unwilling to act.
Some say we need a leader that has not yet arisen. Others demur that we’re too comfortable – that the spirit of liberty has been enervated by prosperity. There’s some justice to both assessments, but a third is uppermost on my mind this morning: that we’ve become cowards, none of us willing to risk our own lives and possessions, all of us happy to “let you and him fight.”.
….We, too, have tried argument.
We have also tried electoral measures.
We have tried everything except open revolt.
What, then, must we do?…’
The whole post is HERE
My reply to Francis is that it will never be enough. That – barring some totally unexpected catalyst for rebellion – the whole of the West is sliding inexorably into slavery and that’s not so much due to cowardice as to a few other reasons:
Lack of organised resistance with a single, coherent message. ( Too many fragmented groups fighting one another over trivial differences and trivial issues.)
The unwillingness of people with bills, mortgages and family to martyr themselves, because there would be little hope of effective support should they choose to strike a blow for liberty.
The now vast numbers of people dependent on the State in various ways who will not rise up against their paymasters.
The combined effects of the “education” system and the media which combine to keep the vast majority ignorant of the real threats to liberty.
Pray for a spark to ignite mass rebellion. And the only spark I can think of right now is economic collapse. But history teaches us that the trigger for major societal upheavals is almost never identified beforehand.
What a surprise!
Not.
on Gallup’s 50% approval rating for Obama:
‘..Since we know that the sample sizes were adequate; that the changes were intended to produce a closer match between Gallup’s predictions and the 2012 electoral outcome; that this worked; and that the changes made appear to be contra-indicated by sampling theory, we are left with three options: either the theory is wrong, a huge opinion shift took place during the last few hours before voting closed, or the official electoral result did not match the actual vote…’ (bold mine)
