Santorum’s not a serious man.

‘Santorum pledges to ‘vigorously’ crack down on Internet porn…’
Is the headline. Now, whether or not internet porn is a serious problem is a legitimate subject for debate. Sometime. But a man campaigning for the opportunity to represent Republicans in November needs to get his head around the facts and get a sense of priorities.
And the facts (just a few of ’em) are that the Constitution is being trashed, America’s traditional governance is being replaced by unelected Kommisars as the country is hurtling towards bankruptcy.
I’d have thought that the availability of sex movies was a pretty low priority, all things considered.

  1. Scumsucker says:

    Get a grip, man.

Porn and saving the planet in 100 years time is the principle concern of the West (along with wymmin’s rights, illegal refugee’s rights, gay pride, lesbian issues, transgender discrimination, Muslim oppression…)

  2. The Gantt Guy says:

What a shame. I suspect this was a brain fart to shore up support in socially conservative states. In so doing (and remember, this topic hasn’t been anywhere near the discussion table until now) Santorum has opened the door for Romney and (if he gets the nomination) Zero to scare-manger that Santorum is the very worst manifestation of the puritanical prude they would already have made him out to be.

He didn’t need to say anything about this. All he (or Romney, if he gets the nod) need to do is run on a platform Zero can’t: Zero’s record. This should (note: should) be the easiest win the Republicans ever had, but from the very start they’ve shown they’re more than capable of losing an unloseable election.

  3. KG says:

I promise to try and do better in future, Scummy.

  4. KG says:

Yep, Gantt. They’re well on track to snatch defeat from the jaws of stupidity.

    • Pascal says:

“Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.” For that matter, McCain could have won last time had he simply tried. It’s you and me that is destined for defeat because there does not seem to be any party on our side. The country is pretty much conservative in a manner that nearly the entire establishment is way out to the left and dragging its subjects along with them — kinda like the Kremlin did with the USSR. Meanwhile they have begun training the American version of the Kmer Rouge. “Watcha gonna do about suckers?”

  5. The Gantt Guy says:

Seriously, how loud can the Left and their pornographer friends scream FIRST AMENDMENT!!!! :rant

Fark. For the sake of the entire world (and that is no exaggeration) Zero MUST be defeated in November. And the popular favorite Republican candidate pulls a stunt like this?

  6. KG says:

It’s just so bloody disheartening. At times it feels like a carefully orchestrated show designed to leave O in office until The Program is in place.
Santorum isn’t merely coming across as out of touch and a zealot–by association he’s dragging conservatives who love freedom into the same box.

    • Pascal says:

Yep. It’s enough to turn me to praying. I’m beginning to get more like Pascal daily, but sans the brilliance.

  7. The Gantt Guy says:

Ah well, we hope for a brokered convention and a proper Conservative to get the nod (after all, the last time a Comservative ran, they only won 49 states).

Other than that, the field is hardly inspiring, is it? I guess that’s why so many are saying “I’d vote for a can of orange juice over Obama” because I’m reality that’s the field they have.

  8. Lucia Maria says:

Internet porn is a big deal. One of the prerequisites for a free society is a virtuous society, and porn destroys the capacity for freedom in a population. I’ve written a few blog posts on this topic over the years, I’ll see if I can find them …

    • KG says:

“..porn destroys the capacity for freedom in a population”
I reject that. Completely. I don’t believe it does any such thing.
The point is, right now the most urgent thing is to defeat Obama. There’s not much time left before he irreversibly changes the shape and character of America.
The porn fight is a much longer-term project and needs to be put on the back burner in the interests of what really matters right now.

    • KG says:

Most of us here are aware of the problem and the significance of it, Lucia Maria.
But a porn-free society (assuming that’s desirable, and I’m not so sure it is) needs to follow on from liberty.
Not much point in gaining virtue and losing liberty.

  9. Andrei says:

You have to realize that a lot what you hear of Rick Santorum is what the gatekeepers let you hear and there is more to the man than his social conservationism.

However he is a Social Conservative and that is his brand and that appeals to a lot of people which is why he is still in the game despite having only a fraction of the resources that Mitt Romney has

  10. WAKE UP says:

More and more I’m (reluctantly, perhaps) coming to the conclusion that we need Gingrich. He’s outspoken, and right, on the BIG issues. :whoop

  11. KG says:

It may well appeal to a lot of people, Andrei but it also turns a lot off.
I would no more trust Santorum to be the arbiter of what I can and cannot view than I do Obama–the libertarian in me rejects both.
What I listen to, what I read and what I view are no politician’s damn business. Let them attend to the mess they’ve made before imposing more restrictions on the people who pay their salaries. And if Santorum is concerned about the corruption of young minds, why hasn’t he taken on the teacher’s unions?
I hate them more or less equally and not one of them truly stands for liberty.

  12. KG says:

I’m inclined to agree with you, Wakey.

  13. The Gantt Guy says:

Way to watch the entire point go sliding on by you, people. Please try to keep up:

    (1) porn is not the issue here. The issue is that Santorum exercised appalling judgement putting this issue out there. It gives the enemy a great big stick with which to bash him.
    (2) porn may or may not be societally destructive (I don’t care one way or the other). It certainly isn’t for a politician to tell me what to watch, read or listen to.
    (3) porn is NOT one of the top 300 challenges facing the next President.
    (4) politicians need to realise they are unable to regulate the Internet. Unable. And whenever they try, a little flame of freedom dies.

    (5) – and this is a biggie – no politician, no matter how virtuous, clever or cunning, can legislate a morally upright and virtuous society.

  14. KG says:

    Amen!

  15. Darin says:

Porn,Contraceptives,Reproductive”rights”gay marriage etc,etc are all states rights issues and should not even be in the national spotlight simply because they are not national issues.
Same holds true to funding matters. There should be no talk at the national level of funding police, firemen or teachers. Those are all local issues as well and the federal government should not be involved in it.

If people, including presidential candidates would only read the Constitution they would see that the total number of things the federal government has the authority to be involved in is actually very small.

Santorum was running at the mouth. He should know that there is no Federal law against prostitution let alone porn and it is therefore left up to the states whether or not they allow it.

A presidential candidate should stick to Energy,Jobs, the economy, national security and that’s pretty much it.The big macro social issues were intended to be solved by the experiment of democracy in the laboratory of freedom which are the states.Social issues brought to the national level are nothing more than pitfall traps set by the left.Unfortunately what the Republicans have running are folks too dumb to avoid falling into them.

  16. KG says:

“Unfortunately what the Republicans have running are folks too dumb to avoid falling into them.”
    Yep.

  17. Andrei says:

OK here’s the go – Rick Santorum has a position on Porn and put it on his website right at the beginning.

The media discovered it and made a story out of it but he is not campaigning heavily on this matter – it is a statement of his position that is all – part of the Social conservative brand

    • The Gantt Guy says:

Don’t know as to when as the article on Santorum’s website has no date on it, but I’m prepared to take your word for it. Doesn’t make it any less of a weapon for the enemy though, does it? And if the Caller found it, you can be damn sure the Chicago Machine would use it.

      • Andrei says:

you can be damn sure the Chicago Machine would use it.

Sure but whoever the nominee is the Chicago machine is going to find stuff to use against them.

And this is not entirely a negative thing in heartland USA now is it? It might not play well in Manhattan but how about in Boise Idaho?

  18. KG says:

Boise Idaho will likely vote for the Republican anyway. It’s surely more important right now to starve the jackals of the lefty press where possible.

    • Pascal says:

I woke up this morning feeling great. I had discovered the words that would cause the big shots to turn on each other and end up leaving my posterity to thrive again even better than I have been blessed. But it was only a dream, and I can’t remember the damn words.

I have been willing to allow that Santorum had developed a spine since the days that he got rolled by W and Rove and lost his Senate seat. You’ve all seen me opting for him over the others. But it looks like he’s doing his best to demoralize me and those who think like I do. If Andrei says that this has been his long term position on porn, I believe it. But he could also say just like KG that since he laid out his platform the Bummer ‘has doubled down on his MAYHEM to our economy through outrageous spending and regulation. So I’ll give up on all that — I promise.’ However, when he gratuitously tells the voters in Puerto Rico that they’d have to adopt English before they could be allowed into the union– and the P.R. keeps voting down statehood anyway so it’s not an effing issue anyway — well, just DAMN. Something is going on here that makes no sense even for GOP politics.

      • The Gantt Guy says:

Yup, well said Pascal. Every time he opens his mouth the past couple days, it seems all he’s doing is changing feet!

  19. at the turn of the last century- John Dewy and his cohorts drew up a plan to over turn our excellent education system and they succeeded =
It is time to us in the Us to TAKE IT BACK!
to note- most university educated people could NOT pass the 1895 US 8th grade test!
    carol-CS

  20. Andrei says:

No need to be depressed – the fix is in and has been for months Romney is the annointed candidate for the GOP.

Iraq is lost – Afghanistan is turning into a debacle with an ignominious retreat well on the cards.

    The US military is demoralized

And war is on the way …..

    • The Gantt Guy says:

Don’t forget a POTUS deliberately (to quote Mark Levin) de-industrialising the US, driving up fuel prices and encouraging class- and race-warfare.

      :popcorn

30 million Conservatives stayed home last time, rather than vote for McCain. Will they do the same with Romney? I sure hope not, but then again it matters little for whom people vote, but much for whom people are recorded as having voted.

      • Andrei says:

You have to inspire people to come out and vote for you.

Romney is so bland, uninspiring.

    • The Gantt Guy says:

OK, it may have been a sucker punch. But riddle me this (genuine question): why does the Caller slime Santorum? What’s the benefit?

      • Andrei says:

Who is the anointed candidate – clue it isn’t Rick Santorum

        • The Gantt Guy says:

The Caller wouldn’t support a contrarian candidate? Not being a smart arse, genuinely curious.

  21. I saw the other day that Romney has more delegates that all the others put together. Looks like he’ll get even more now.

Porn, sexual promiscuity, drug abuse etc are all problems eating away at the west. I’m pretty sure that if you were to reduce the instances of all these you would eventually get a more healthy society, one that’s more conservative in its thinking.

However at this point in time, those are not the main priorities, the trashing of the constitution, the unelected Kommisars and bankruptcy are just the surface of it.

obama and the democrats have made war upon the liberty of ordinary Americans, not only are they saddled with crippling debt and less freedom now, but so are their children and their grand children.

I hope Santorum is not going to make this one of his major campaign policies, if he does he won’t get the vote of the middle. And they are just itching to give their vote to a credible candidate.

  22. KG says:

Maybe a candidate who asks this question, RWT:
‘..A better way to bring down the Obama regime is to put him on defense.  For instance, ask the president why he spent millions of dollars on lawyers and litigation to suppress his birth certificate if, as he claims, there was nothing worth suppressing.  He can’t say that he didn’t spend that much time and money, so putting him on defense forces him to answer the question — or dig himself into an even deeper hole with yet another Nixonian cover-up.

  23. KG says:

And until the GOP deals with this shit, by confronting and publicising it I refuse to believe they’re not merely part of the same gang as the Democrats:
‘Media Matters astroturfed the Limbaugh secondary boycott’
    http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/03/media-matters-astroturfed-the-limbaugh-secondary-boycott/

  24. WAKE UP says:

The REAL issues are national security and the economy. What’s the bet that Santorum actually said something about those issues as well, but the slimestream media chose to run with the pornography thing only ? :roll

    • Pascal says:

I’m inclined to say more likely than the sun rose in the East this morning, but I want to be as accurate as possible without overstating it too much.
