Open house

Spent yesterday on an exploring/photographing pig-hunting trip. Too knackered to post anything last night.

  1. Do you have issues with feral pigs? We had some on a property, local ‘hunters’ wanted me to bait an area, so that they wouldn’t have to work too hard …………………… I demurred, but put up motion-detector lights, to scare them away from our front door ……………………………….

    Semper Fi’
    DM

    • They’re a big problem here, DM. Baiting them is inhumane, imho and certainly not “hunting”.

  2. Pig Hunting must have been nice. Did you catch any?

I know one thing, there were no members of The Religion Of Peace near by.

  3. Two big boars, Katie, which we brought back alive. And killed several others.

  4. KG. Probably a stupid question but why you would bring back LIVE boars? Big ones at that. Wouldn’t they make a mess of your car boot? :?:

    • Big and very angry ones at that..people buy them to either fatten or to breed, Mara. Personally, I think it’s kinder to simply shoot them but it wasn’t my call.
The Landcruiser ute we brought them back on is not in..erm..showroom condition, to put it mildly. A day battering our way through thick scrub, plugging through mud and dust made not the slightest difference to it’s appearance. It looks exactly the same today as it did when I first saw it a year ago, and it hasn’t been cleaned in the meantime….

  5. Had a talk with a Time Traveler this week-

Colt model 1849 Pocket revolver in .31 caliber.Serial number puts it as being made in September 1863.Found in the bottom of a ditch in Louisiana. It will never shoot again, but I managed to get the trigger, loading ram and cylinder index to work with a little oil and TLC.

    • That is worth a considerable chunk of cash!

As is the bounty on a freelance time traveller…

        • Got an offer so far of $500,this one is in really bad condition considering where its been for the last 100 years or so.

Even though this is a really small Colt it fits my hand good, maybe Colt was on to something.

Its got me thinking I need to buy a reproduction, tempting, very tempting-

          • I have a couple or five of the Uberti
reproductions from that era- great pistols at a good price.

  6. Pig hunting – a gruesome business, haven’t done it in years.
Had a Ruger 44 mag back then, long since sold.

Pig hunting was never my thing really

  7. Pig Hunting KG? Do you have a staffie cross to go with it

  8. I used to go pig hunting in Auckland in the 1990s, Friday nights….

  9. Only game worth a damn in these parts. Give the wannabes that brag about picking off a deer at 400 metres a knife and see them lose all enthusiasm…

  10. Andrei – thanks for that link. Enjoyed that.

Though I have no idea what they were singing… :|

      • Her post “Lie to Me” is on target and in the bull’s eye.

For me, Tea Party is a term for people who reject most all goings on today – and only want a balanced budget or some idiot to submit on no less! And quit raping & plundering everything A-Z in America.

  12. With the amount of Prosciutto and Pancetta I’ve been eating in the last couple of weeks in Italy they might need your two pigs to replenish their stocks.

Free wifi spots have been hard to find but when I can get on-line CR provides more news than the MSM.

    mawm, Amalfi coast.

    • Good to hear from you Mawm. We both envy you your Italian adventure. I could happily die in Italy. :cheers

      • The food is really good. Some pretty hot women around as well. We move off to my wife’s village next where I’m sure we’ll be wined and dined into an early grave. mawm

  13. Do Italians still regard red traffic lights as merely advisory? I thought it one of their most charming foibles…

    • Pfffft……that’s just kindy for the public bus drivers along the coastal rd between Salerno and Sorrento. The blood of Fangio courses through their veins.
Darwin is ensuring their DNA remains strong with all the kamikaze teenage Vespa drivers. :popcorn

    • Strange, isn’t it, how that “respect for other faiths” thing is strictly a one-way street?

  14. As for the comments about it being “sad”–the chaplains need to get angry, not sad.
