That’s a *wonderful* mini-series I watched only a couple of months ago. Paul Giamatti is excellent in the role of Adams!

    • KG says:

I just ordered it on DVD, Gantt. The whole set for $25, from Fishpond.

      • The Gantt Guy says:

Ahh. I got it from the public library just before I left Melbourne (although I returned it, of course). I should have bought it; it’s good enough to watch multiple times.

In fact, with Christmas coming up…

  2. KG says:

Well, at $20+ dollars, it’s not going to break the bank. I can’t wait for it to arrive.

  3. Elijah says:

I watch this series in full every couple of months.
    Brilliant work.

    • KG says:

We haven’t watched TV in years, Elijah, because it’s almost all garbage. (and where we are, it’s all ABC propaganda, too).
I much prefer to get programs such as this one and “The Wire” on DVD and cut out all the crap.

      • The Gantt Guy says:

If you can get it, I recommend a series called Treme. It’s made by the same guys who did The Wire, and features a number of actors who appeared in The Wire (Wendell Pierce, Clarke Peters).

Treme is about post-Katrina New Orleans. Series 1 starts about 2 months after, and they’re just now making a fifth (and final) series, set almost 3 years after. Being set among primarily black areas of New Orleans, there’s a pretty strong Liberal agenda (Bush = bad, series 4 set in 2007, has a couple of subliminal Obama messages). That said, the series talks a lot about the corruption that took place under Mayor Nagin during the rebuild, about police brutality (including some murders committed by cops in the aftermath).

But the real story is the music. The show has cameos from some of New Orleans’ finest, including Kermit Ruffin and Trombone Shorty, with brief appearances from Dr John, The Neville Brothers, Fats Domino among others.

        • Darin says:

If you think the show is interesting you should try living near that three ring circus.
Huey Long,Edwin Edwards,Dutch Moryal and all the cast of corrupt Democrat politicians that have followed including Landreu.
The Great history, food and music make up for it though.

            AAAAAAARGH! I detect j*zz contamination !

          • The Gantt Guy says:

Did you check the guitarist? Made his Telecaster look like a ukelele!

            • Darin says:

Gantt-#1 Yes,soon as I finish remodeling the upstairs bedroom.
Be aware that actually going TO Jazz fest by the time you get tickets, pay for parking, pay for drinks, pay for food it costs about $18,000,000 for two. Then the atmosphere ranges from okay to miserable depending on rain and humidity.I will never go back.

Much better to spend a week or two in the late summer early fall starting in N.O. and following the Mississippi River north through Mississippi to Memphis. The best J*zz and R&B is to be found in the small back roads clubs where admission is $5 and the Beer is $2.
Here we have Albert King and SRV playing together in 1983 which IMHO is THE pinnacle of Blues Guitar. If everyone in the world took an hour to listen to this we could achieve world peace-

The fact that 57 people dislike this confirms extraterrestrials walk among us

      • Elijah says:

        I’d have to agree there.
I’ve got the series on DVD as well.
If you feel like punishing yourself really badly, acquire the series “Revolution” and you’ll be stripping your facial skin off with the amount face palming you will be doing watching the show. :vomit

  4. KG says:

Cool! I’ll see if I can get hold of it, Gantt. Thanks.

  5. KG says:

    Wow! Love that, Darin. :whoop
