NOT!
Jeep corporation a division of Chrysler/Fiat last year produced a new off road prototype vehicle. They carried it around to all the major auto shows in the US last year.Everywhere it went people loved it,it’s new, different and very capable.People began asking/begging as to when the release date would be so they could buy one.Channeling the German Unimog, this thing has everything and would probably see a lot of private and commercial application. Not to mention help bail out a struggling company.
All for nothing,Jeep announced they would not be putting it in production as it would not meet US impact crash standards. So basically the government safety Nazis would deem it as being unsafe, yet they tell us Smartcars and Fiat Abarths are-Sure….we believe anything you guys say.

I figure off road folks are used to and accept a certain amount of danger and should be able to choose for themselves what vehicle they buy.Heck, most of them modify everything anyway, but that’s not good enough for a government hell bent on keeping us safe.
Thanks for the wrench work on the post KG!
No worries. Since it was my fault anyway…
But who is save from government ?
The mob, with pitchforks and torches, Robert.
Land Rover. Had a bit of a go at one of these back in ’72
*shudders*
The trouble with Land Rovers is that you spend more time under them than in them!
You’d know all about that, Oswald!
I agree–and it amazes me to see gringo touristas out in these parts, with more money than sense, driving the latest Range Rovers. Notoriously delicate and unreliable, I reckon they must spend more time being towed by Landcruisers than they do sightseeing.
Ya,I knew a girl that had a Ranger Rover Discovery.Rover named it that because once you have to work on it once you Discover what a POS it really is.
It quit shifting, could not physically make the stick move and it was an automatic. They had this crappy piece of plastic for a shift plate that crumbled like a cookie and cost an eye watering $425
Yep, that’s the Range Rovers we know and loathe.
I got the upper hand on that one.She asked me why fixing her ride required a plastic cutting board from the Kitchen section in Walmart.
I told her I own a drill press and a jig saw and know how to use them.
Good fix. the nylon boards are tough as nails, and who cares about the aesthetics?
Aesthetics won’t get her out of the crap at 3am on a lonely road.

I like the old one better, the new one looks like trouble.
I’m prepared to make a large bet that a well-maintained older Mule will be more reliable than the new ones, Darin.

I’m friends and have worked with a few Maniacs.Good people, although everybody I knew was from the rural areas which are most of the state. The sad part is it’s still infested with communist leftys in the cities.
And the really sad part is the fact that Maine is just so damn cold! They build beautiful boats, though.
But it’s close enough to Canada to have really good Beer (Paulsons)and the Lobster is second to none

Someone once told me that if owners of E Type Jags couldn’t afford a live-in car mechanic, then they were not the type of people who should own an E Type as they were obviously peasants striving above their stations in life. Same perhaps with Range Rovers vs Land Rovers and European vs Jap cars. Economy must not be SEEN to matter. Snobs amuse me sometimes…. and then there’s machismo, which I obviously know nothing about, being female… hmm.
“..and then there’s machismo, which I obviously know nothing about, being female..”
But I’m pretty sure you know it when you see it, Mara.
I also reckon that a lot of people will pay for the more expensive Rangie simply to demonstrate that they can afford to waste money.
Exactly KG.
And not just in Britain…
