Leftist propagandists, snouts in taxpayer’s pockets:

‘Last Saturday’s Sydney Morning Herald carried the program of the taxpayer subsidised 2013 Sydney Writers’ Festival – which will be held from 20 May to 26 May…
(Lists 60+ participants.)
….So there you have it. Some three score and more leftists/ left-of-centre types/ social democrats will address the 2013 taxpayer-subsidised Sydney Writers’ Festival.
And what about right-of-centre types and social conservatives?  Well, it seems that fewer than a dozen fit this category. That’s a balance of six to one. That’s your typical Sydney Writers’ Festival.  That’s your taxpayer dollar working for – well, you be the judge.’        Andrew Bolt
Effing parasites. Sneering, egotistical, unprincipled, unemployable, dishonest useless greedy leeches. And we have our money stolen and paid to the bastards.

  1. Of course not. One of the reasons they hated Bryce Courtenay so much was that he never took a cent of public money, was hugely successful and regarded the wanking pseuds with utter contempt.
And how do you manage to write good stories without gummint assist, Os?

    • What is this heresy you speak, sir? Charges will be brought against you before the Writers’ Guild!

  2. I think Oswald should buy himself a pipe and a tweed jacket, Gantt, drink soy lattes and apply for a gummint grant.
We could be his research assistants.

  3. No no! Oswald drinks the soy latte, Gantt, while we research and fortify ourselves with single malts.

  4. Well, I dunno. He did a lot of rooting and general hellraising, so maybe that was his secret? Latte power?

  5. Cuba in those days must have been a great place to hang out…..women, cigars and marlin fishing. What else could a man want?

    • Sounds like paradise. Until the fucking leftists showed up and ruined the party.

      • Nah, Os–just find a longliner to take you out past the Poor Knights. It’ll cost very little and those guys are better than the tourista rip-offs at finding fish. If you need a reel let me know and I’ll post one of mine to you.

  6. A lot of those authors- the ones that actually published book people still read and love many years after the authors have died- had very interesting lives and worked in the hard jobs- fishing, lumber jacking, oil rigs- they fought in wars, sailed through hurricanes and climbed mountains. They worked hard, played hard and had actually ‘been around’.

And never got a degree in creative writing…

    • Exactly. People like Jack London and Ernest Gann, for example.
But their work is “simplistic” and “not nuanced” doncha know…..
