    “We Like Ike!”

Eisenhower was the first president I can remember and growing up as a kid in Huntington, West Virginia, where my dad worked as a manager in the C&O railroad, were the golden years of my life.

One of the perks dad got was a free pass for the family, so I was witness to the USA in the peaceful late 1950s.

The only sour note was the nuclear bomb shelter our neighbors built in their backyard at great expense, just in case Russian bombers decided to take out Huntington, which was a transportation hub for the railroad and barge traffic on the Ohio river. We were informed by them (seriously!) the shelter was for their family ONLY – and they’d shoot our family if we tried to get in with them when the inevitable Commie bastards showed up in the skies over Huntington.

I understand the neighborhood teenagers in the 1960s found this large bomb shelter an excellent “make out” place :!: :!:  So it became a place of “make love, not war” :!:

Yes, in those days we hated the Communists – now we have a Communist president and psychopath – O how the mighty have fallen :!:

And how inexpressibly sad that is…….
