rifles_tikka_picture5Gecko just ordered the rabbit a Tikka T3 in .243. Stainless fluted barrel, walnut stock.
(it was that, or a Sabatti double rifle. Sanity prevailed.)

Looks like we might get some good news here too-

I want me a Garand so bad I would lick the Cosmoline off it if I had tohttp://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif

Does Australia manufacture it’s own military ammo,or is it bought in from elsewhere?
    http://www.sgammo.com/product/surplus/900-round-can-556mm-62-grain-fmj-adi-ss109-f1-ball-ammo-plastic-packs-0

Currently that’s not a bad price for 5.56 assmuning it’s Aussie mfg and not Taiwan or Korean.

  3. KG says:

Dunno, Darin, but I’ve known a few people who used 5.56 milsurp here and they had no complaints.
One was a pro ‘roo shooter and he was pretty fussy.

‘Olin Australia (Winchester) manufactures small arms ammunition in Geelong for defence and commercial markets.’

Get it before it is bracketed as an Assault rifle http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wink.gif

    • KG says:

I’ve heard of people who were just about to hand weapons in being mysteriously burgled.

      • Darin says:

Yup,”Assault weapon”,nice broad nebulous term they use ain’t it?
Could mean anything from a gun or a rock to a clinched fist, and if the Second amendment goes down even a soap box.

    • KG says:

Why doesn’t somebody simply shoot it? http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_scratch.gif

My uncle once said”Germans, they invaded Poland once, strange sense of humor that bunch has”http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

Maybe it’s a Dutch WW II resistance fighter reincarnated as a stork.

      • KG says:

 That’s why I don’t listen to Wagner…it gives me this strange urge to invade Poland.

        • Darin says:

My boss is second generation German and one of his buddies is an Austrian immigrant.Everytime they get to talking I say “look out,we know what happened the last time an Austrian talked up a German

You can quit your grinnin’ an’ all. looks like I’ll be here for at least another 7 hrs…http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif

  8. KG says:

Think of it as the price of naked ambition, Ciaron.
Hopefully, ChCh city council won’t be approving the design?

  9. KG says:

    “..What gives,taxes? Shipping? Restrictions?”
Beats me. Mostly taxes and shipping, I suspect.
Trouble is, by the time I set up a bench and buy the reloading gear, it’ll take about a year before I start saving money. Then I have the hassle of working out what’s the best load for the barrel twist etc etc etc.
An Aussie company has just started making ammo which is stable and consistent at high temperatures, but so far only in 223 and 308. If they make it in .243 I’ll give it a go. Reports so far look very good. It’ll save carrying the stuff in a cooler in summer.

For the gunnies, the argument for .243:
    http://www.chuckhawks.com/243_service_rifle.htm

    • Darin says:

.243 is a good round for sure,it’s one of the reasons I want an AR-10.Two pins and I could go from a .308 to a .243W.

      http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2010/05/robert-farago/armalite-releases-limited-edition-ar-10a4243bf-243-winchester-ar-10/

    • Oswald Bastable says:

The .243 would have been a far superior military round to the 5.56×45 poodle-shooter.

Back in the 50’s the brits figured the optimum rifle round to be the .280 or 7mm, but for political reasons, and the NATO WOFTAM’s*, this was not to be. The 7mm08, a necked down .308, is now proving hugely popular for hunters in NZ.

Of course, the Germans figured out the 7×57 Mauser over 50 years before this!

        Slow learners, military bureaucrats…..

        • Darin says:

That’s how we ended up with the Ar15/M16,McNamara and the whiz kids along with Army bureacrats.
Stoner’s AR-10 came first and fired 7.62×51,but due to political pressure in the military and Fairchilds rush it was shelved.

  11. KG says:

“A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.”

“I love Christmas lights. They remind me of the people who voted for Obama. They all hang together; half of them don’t work, and the ones that do, aren’t that bright.”

  12. Pascal says:

Holy shit. At the column with the name “Behind the Curtain” no less.

    The New Power Triangle

It’s nearly admitting to the American equivalent of the 1st Triumvirate.

Worse, the Politico has the audacity to label it The “NEW” power triangle?

“We have been looking literally for years for someone we can cut deals with, and finally someone has stepped up,” a White House official said. West Wing aides say they now talk with McCain roughly every other day.

New? How about talking with him since 2008? Nah, you conspiracy nuts. [have we tweaked them enough — politico editor]

    • Darin says:

More proof that McCain is a traitor and more proof that we are a single party political system.Although I wouldn’t say McCain has any “power” other than to sway his buddy and co-conspiritor Lindsey Graham over to his latest stupid idea.

  13. Pascal says:

Heaven: We have a problem. The corruption is feeding itself.

The Whole > Sum of All Corruptions

    Seems crusader material.

Finally going home after 33 hours chained to the desk. I’ve not done those sorts of hours since the AMCUP days http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

  15. Pascal says:

I’m not done yet. It’s time to shed light on the attempts of the RINO’s SKUNC’s to lull you into accepting them. That is because evidence indicates that they can be even more politically calculating than the Rats.

JWF posted this heart-warming story tonight: Bush 41 shaves head in support of 2-year-old cancer patient.

Now, this is a warm gesture coming from any President, but most especially now that such is totally foreign to the creature some grudgingly refer to as the pResident. There is little question the Bushes — all of them, right Jeb? — know how to show a humane side in addition to their elitism (if you are for border protection you must be a racist being one of their major blindly intolerant positions.)

However, without casting any aspersions, let me remind you that Stalin famously observed

“a single death is a tragedy; a million merely a statistic.”

And let me also remind you of Slick Willie’s slogan of

“once you can fake sincerity, the rest is easy”

    was not invented by Slick.

As for those who would dare charge me with Bush Derangement Syndrome — Your Bush Defensive Syndrome is far more irrational.
