From today’s Australian newspaper: ‘Tony Abbott says the U.N.’s climate chief is “talking through her hat” by suggesting a link between the NSW bushfires and climate change.’
At last, we have a PM who actually sounds like a dinkum Aussie.

Do you think that he has any spare cajones for Key who has grovelled before the UN? It still didn’t get NZ a seat on the Security Council.

    • Darin says:

I read an article the otherday where Key was answering questions about some Chinese navy ships that were stopping by for a “friendship visit”.

Key said they were welcome since they were not carrying nukes in compliance with NZ’s “we don’t want no atoms round here”policy and that the US Navy could stop by too,if we did the same.

I may be a simple country boy,but to me it sounded like the ChiComs invited themselves and Key’s shoes were begining to fill up with piss.

      • KG says:

“..and Key’s shoes were begining to fill up with piss.”
Well, Auckland is beginning to fill with Chinese.

      • mawm says:

Quite literally if the Chinese were to arrive and say NZ is now theirs, NZ could do absolutely nothing other than submit. We do not have a military, we have a peacekeeping force – a small standing army with too many LAV’s; a navy that has 3 frigates (that keep breaking down) armed with what looks like 2 (port and starboard) 12.5 Brownings and a 16mm cannon, 2 supply ships and assorted WW2 era minesweepers, etc.; and an airforce that has a few tired, barely serviceable C130’s, some Orion long distance recon planes, a few choppers and a Boeing troop (VIP) carrier.

As we no longer belong to ANZUS, neither Australia or America would have to do anything to help.

It would give the Chinese a wonderful opportunity to shorten their supply line when they need to ‘annex’ the east coast of Australia. They would also not have to add melamine to their milk powder any longer. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

        • Cadwallader says:

I was wondering the other what the downside of a Chinese takeover of NZ would be…not absolutely sure that there is one. I suppose I should ponder this a little longer?

      • The Gantt Guy says:

And Key, as usual, is lying.

The Chinese (*all*) of whose destroyers are nuclear, said “No, no Mr Key. Of course our vessels are not nuclear-armed or -powered.”

Whereas the USN say, as they always have, that they will neither confirm nor deny.

All of which makes the Chinese, who we know are lying to us, our friends, whereas the Americans, who don’t want to change their operational rules for one “ally” most of whose subjects don’t like them very much, our enemy.

        See how newspeak works?

There are some questions that no one seems to be able to answer regarding:

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11145337

    1. Does the burqa-wearing student consider how the locals view her attire?
    2. Does the student wear a burqa out of habit (without giving it any thought)?
    3. Does the student feel compelled to wear a burqua? If so, why?
    4. Is this compulsion internal (due to the student’s own beliefs) or imposed by others?
    5. If imposed by others, who are they? Are they here in NZ with the student?
    6. Does the burqa-wearing student socialize with NZ citizens ? (This would present an opportunity for the exchange of ideas.)

Is it possible that the burqa-wearing student is simply naive, sheltered and clueless and was genuinely surprised by what happened to her in the supermarket?

Is she the victim? (How would you prove this?)
Is she a provocateur? (How would you prove this?)
Who benefits from such incidents? (Hint: if some party is clearly to benefit, then there is a high likelihood of such events being staged.)

(I like to pull things apart to see how they work…)

    • Mike says:

“In finding her guilty, Justice of the Peace Ashley Broad said he did not deny the importance of freedom of speech, but said people exercising the right “must not be offensive”.”

I was not aware it is illegal to say things that offend other people, is this a new law?

      • KG says:

“Police prosecutor Tim Hambleton said Rappard’s actions were “morally repugnant” and qualified as offensive behaviour because onlookers were shocked.”
Oh? NZ has Morals Police now? What next, islamist “police” patrolling the streets to confiscate alcohol and tell women to cover up, as Britain already has?

Can these fuckwit PC drones not see the slippery slope? Are they so fucking cowed and brain-dead?
This is the result of years of state indoctrination, cowardice, and a media that does it’s best to hide the true nature of islam from the population.
I’d have given the judge the finger and told him to sit on it and rotate.
As for the naive clown wearing the sack–deport the bitch to one of the shit-holes she obviously admires so much. Preferably Somalia.

        • KG says:

And if freedom of speech relies on not giving offence, then there is no freedom of speech at all, only a confected “right” to spout State-sanctioned words.

          • The Gantt Guy says:

            That’s it, in a nutshell.

The test of whether our right to free speech is truly “free” or a “right”, is whether sanctions apply when our speech offends.

The old saying goes “I find what you’re saying repugnant, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”

            To answer your questions:
            – No, these fuckwit PC drones can not see the slippery slope
            – Yes, they are so fucking cowed and brain-dead.

Why ObamaCare is a fantastic success.

This is a brilliant, cynical, and purposeful attempt to damage the U.S. economy, kill jobs, and bring down capitalism.

    It’s not a failure, it’s Obama’s grand success.

The GOP is so stupid they can’t see it.

    • mawm says:

For Obamacare to be a success Obama can’t allow elections to happen in 2016 and most probably in 2014 as well – although even if the GOP hold onto the House and win the Senate I can’t see them stopping him with their current form.

      • Darin says:

It’s already a huge monsterous disaster Mawm. It’s possible that this thing could finally topple the bastard.Dem congressmen and Senators are lining the railings ready to jump ship, they see the writing on the wall come 2014.People are losing their health insurance as soon as they sign up for the non-existant Obamacare plans and are being left with nothing.

And now the whole truth is begining to come out about what Obamacare really is-just a massive wealth transfer from the American people and industry to the government leeches. This will get ugly, very ugly before it ends.

      • The Gantt Guy says:

“The next thing in his sights will be your bank accounts and your pensions – you know, too control the debt.”

The Gillard government was actively reviewing a form of this theft back in 2011, mawm. Not directly stealing money from people’s banks or pension funds, but change the law to require superannuation funds* to “invest” a certain proportion of their book in “nation building” projects (like, for example, the National Broadband Network white elephant).

*Aussies are required by law to place 9% (increasing to 12% over the coming few years) of their pre-tax earnings into an approved superannuation scheme

End of a legend,USS Forrestal heads to the scrappers-

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/10/23/forrestal-navy-first-supercarrier-sold-for-1-penny/

My Father served on her sister ship the USS Independance.Dad said he was on the Indy when they met up with the Enterprise for a shake down speed trial off Newport News,Rhode Island. At the time (58-62′) the carrier’s top speed was classified. When the trials began the Indy kept pace with the Enterprise up to about 45 knots, then the Enterprise began to pull away and leave them in her wake.It was the end of an era,oil was old and nuclear was the way of the future. The Forrestals went on to serve for many more years before being decomissioned in the late 1980’s.

A Zuni missle left the mounts on a plane accidentally and hit the one next to the plane Piloted by McCain. His plane had it’s drop tank sliced open by debris from that explosion and spilled several hundred gallons of jet fuel onto the deck which lit and then things got really interesting.IIRC it was a static discharge that caused the missle to launch.

My Father was involved in a fire on the Indy.A prop driven electronic warfare plane launched and once in flight radioed in for an emergency landing.Upon landing it skidded sideways and folded spilling 1300 LBS of burning AV gas on to the deck which began running down inside munitions lockers under the flightdeck and down several decks below.

My father and his fire control crew, along with 12 other crews were ordered to get the fire under control at all costs. They fought the fire for 16hours straight before it was out.He and his crew spent days in the med bay recovering from heat exhaustion and 2nd degree burns to their feet.He said deck plates got so hot it was melting the soles of their boots while they worked.Fire shipboard is no fun
