‘Why walking within 30ft of a lit cigarette puts you at risk of dangerous passive smoking’
Yet these same zealots never mention the carcinogens in diesel fumes, when our streets are clogged with buses and trucks belching smoke….because it’s far, far easier to demonise and persecute individuals. It gives the little self-important wankers a sense of power and a purpose to their empty effing lives.
Leftists/”progressives”/socialists are not welcome here. Pay for your own soapbox.

Try to look on the bright side of life: along with the Greenoids, brain dead Vegans, ‘elf & safety’ retards and the demented slaves of Allah our whole world is a target rich environment for those of sound mind and itchy trigger finger. Boring it’s not going to be.
If it comes to that, Seneca. (and I hope to hell it does, because nothing else will fix it)
How many, I wonder, will “ride to the sound of the guns” when the time comes?
My town went along with the dim wit ban on smoking in public places, businesses etc.People walk in where I work and ask if it’s alright to smoke inside.
Where I work smoking is allowed and encouraged, just don’t leave the butts on the floor. One of our resident elf’n safety nazis asked about that policy oneday. The boss told him’Look,we have welding fumes, solvent fumes, fiberglass and abrasive particles suspended in the air in here,a little Tobacco smoke is an improvement”
KG: “How many, I wonder, will “ride to the sound of the guns” when the time comes?”
Well, I understand from the ‘cousins’ that last time around all it took was III Percent!
And this time around we shall, I hope, be on the same side facing a common enemy.
Estimates [based on applications for Revolutionary War pensions] are that for every pension entered, somewhere from 4 to 10 men never applied. So, if 1000 Patriots fought at the Battle of The Cowpens. a potential 4000 or more were actually there. A man would get grapevine news of an upcoming battle, pick up his rifle and get in the fight, then go home.
There may be no difference when riding to the guns today.
@Darin – where did you find that spaceship smiley?
I wonder if they will say the same thing about Pot Smoke?
Nope,Pot smoke is PC.
@Contempt
I find that quite encouraging. Thanks
Agreed KG – diesel fumes have some bloody nasty stuff in them.
I have to admit that I’m glad that NZ passed an act in 1990 prohibiting smoking in workplaces. I was in an office before the act was passed and we had a smoker there (a Muslim, as it happens, from Bangladesh). Anyway, he smoked some *really stinky* cigars! It was a big improvement when the act passed a couple of years after that. No more stinky cigar-smoke in the office.
It’s also much more pleasant going to bars and restaurants here now that there’s no smoking inside them.
I *do* agree though that whining about smokers *outside* is going “over the top”.

Thor, to me the question of smoking in bars and restaurants is perfectly simple. If the owner wants to ban smoking in his own property, then fine–smokers can go elsewhere. Similarly, if an owner doesn’t mind smokers, then non-smokers are free to go elsewhere.
Totalitarian blanket bans just make me pissed off.
Nobody forced non-smokers to go to venues which allowed smoking, so their rights weren’t being infringed. Smokers, however, have had their rights to peaceful enjoyment of their habit taken away from them.
It always amuses me how the boffins claim that a precise number of people die each year from vehicle pollution here in Auckland (about 2-3 years ago I think it was 539) Interestingly however, is that not one pathology report exists, that substanties their claims.
Funny that.
oopss…”substantiates”
And those unsubstantiated claims will be constantly revised, according to whatever’s fashionable at the time.
I was talking to a young doc the other day about smoking, and he stated that if a person gives up the habit, whatever damage has been caused stops getting worse at that point, but is irreversible.
Yet just a few years ago I was reading pamphlets and articles which stated that the lungs regenerate to some extent after giving up smoking.
Be nice if they could make up their bloody minds, wouldn’t it?
And I forget..is butter, for example, good for you this week or is it a deadly poison?
There’s another, largely un-mentioned pollutant which almost all of us are subject to: Outgassing on warm days from the plastics used in car interiors. Nasty stuff, but can’t be mentioned because–like diesel fumes–that would cripple a number of major industries.
Half-science, hypocrisy and bullshit are what the control freaks thrive on.
like tetra ethyl lead in fuel..umm- just replace it with; umm?… I know— benzene..
Sydney street after that benzene exceeded every imaginable limit. real smart ,eh?
we read the lead thing here in NZ , the study and research was the biggest load of crap we have ever seen.more selective, bullshit science.
I have been trying to tell the “crusader” non-smoker types be very, very afraid. If you pitch in with that lot of zealots then expect all of your freedoms to go down the gurgler. as KG has said these kunts aren’t really interested in smoking or not , they thrive on smug control.they certainly aren’t earning money in what is [or was!]the normal way of the world ,they are just another bunch of pigs with their snouts in the public purse gravy trough.
easy isn’t it ; to flip/flop from one public “crisis” to another and clipping the ticket all the way along..yah know..global warming isn’t fashionable today ., so lets pick on smoking, or that’s off the radar, let’s create a new one ,hmmm, fatty foods, hmm; too much subscription to that [no $ left], let’s try the fracking lark …all of a sudden everyones a geologist and they all have their hands out.
I have been watching submissions to government select committees very carefully..
one clever trick is to amplify the problem completely and straight out lie to acheive that .Why ; vested interests with the sole aim –“money”. the smoking one here showed how deceitful our health boards are.It almost like ;well the cigarette makers lie; so why don’t we.
On that select committee thing – one I will never forget is the one on dog control.I still have a score to settle on that.
went to a industrial/science get together and presentation – a reference to AGW [causing xyz]came up- I think most there laughed it off as a bad joke.was heartening to see that at least behind the scenes, there is a number of very influential people left that still have a brain.
I think leaded fuel got a bad wrap, the bulk of the mercury and lead polution to be found in our cities is from Coal fired power plants and there isn’t much getting around that.
We banned trash incenerators over here back in the late 70’s early 80’s in the name of reducing air polution and now we are filling in valleys with trash that used to be burned to generate power, but now polutes the ground water.
Oh, if this is the case, the next time some lefties decide to protest about something, which is like every week now, we should head on over to watch, puffing on cigars and all that.
