‘Cameron’s internet filter goes far beyond porn – and that was always the plan
Through secretive negotiations with ISPs, the coalition has divided the internet into ‘acceptable’ and ‘unacceptable’ categories and cut people off from huge swathes of it at the stroke of a key…’
CR commenter ‘thor42‘:
“It’s an article about their recently-introduced internet filter that divides content into “acceptable” and “unacceptable”. Anything in the latter category gets blocked.
The selling of this as a “porn filter” is BS – that’s only a cover for the real purpose. What’s the bet that this filter blocks UK people from accessing websites and forums that criticise Islam?
I would put money on it.
If it does block anti-Islamic content then Cameron and co have just introduced one of the things that the Organisation of Islamic Countries has been fighting for – the outlawing of “criticism of religion”. ( They, of course, are solely interested in outlawing criticism of ISLAM but I digress… ).
What does this mean? Two things.
1 – The OIC can now (with impunity) get Muslims in the UK to do whatever they (the OIC) want. Anyone criticising whatever the Muslims do will be deemed to be behaving “unacceptably” and will be chased by the UK police.
2 – When a government such as this one ignores and dismisses the very valid criticisms and protests of a large number of the population (or blocks access to website and forums on which such concerns are aired), the only option left for people is to take to the streets.
Cameron and co have just sent the UK further on the path towards civil war.
UPDATE:    bypass the filter

It won’t be long before we have the same happening here in Cuba of the South Pacific.

No, it won’t. Conroy tried it on in Oz already.
I warned more than six years ago when we were living in NZ that the Klark Gang viewed developments in Britain as a blueprint, and that any restrictions on liberties there would find their way to NZ.
      And they did.

The author of the article linked to has some worrying beliefs – “no good evidence that porn has any detrimental effect on children.”

Really? He also seems to yearn for a lot more sex education. I have to say all these years of sex education don’t seem to have been for the better. Perhaps not the best advocate against the internet filter.

Putting this fellow to one side, i agree in principle, i’m sort of open to the idea of a “porn” filter. Also one that you opt into as opposed to being shoved into it.

But still, i don’t want government running this sort of thing, as much as i’d like to have less to worry about when raising children, experience has taught me that government almost always screws things up. And it’s also better to be concerned and watching as opposed to falsely thinking that someone else is watching out for you. You can get your own internet filters to keep your kids safe when they’re online. The key is to get involved in their lives and know what they’re doing.

Hypothetically speaking, even if we have a raging Conservative government that does manage to get the porn filter 100% right, only the porn sites are blocked and you have to opt in, we’ve seen that all it takes is one slimy weasel to come with his sauce bottle – i’m here to help – and it all turns to shit. Even if it’s not a leftist bastard, the original good intentions will be abused, it’s just the nature of things.

Government is screwing up enough already, let’s not give them any more.

    YES!
The problem is, of course, that too many parents simply can’t be bothered and would rather leave it to the Nanny state.

Good on you for posting that, KG! Thanks for doing that.

I don’t think most Brits have any idea of how bad things really are in their country. The still-high ratings in the polls for the Cameron government show that. As long as they have Coro Street on the telly, that’s all that seems to matter to them.

French consortium are set to spread the biggest wind farm in the world just 9 miles off shore, along the heritage coast of Dorset – the Jurassic coast. Lord Monckton is the
UKIP spokesman for Energy and Climate Change, and is backing the campaign by PCBA to stop the wind farm. He is showing with easy to understand graphs, the falsity of the claims of man made global warming, and also the false economics of the Climate Change campaign.

If not law, then sabotage, Robert. It’s reached the point where these bastards have to be stopped using any means possible.
I believe the “rule of law” is now tyranny’s fig leaf.
