Rest in Peace, Mr. Guarnere. And thank you, sir.

Parachuting into heaven as we speak. May we all face the battles of tomorrow with the same honor.

  2. Moneo says:

An inspiration to many through his book and its adaptation, at least now he won’t have to watch the sacrifices he and his brothers endured squandered and his nation destroyed.

    Rest In Peace

    A hero and a petriot.
    Rest in peace, Mr. Guarnere.

  4. James Bond Stockdale once said that a true hero will never admit to being a hero. This is because he doe not see himself as a hero. He is just a man that saw something that he believed to be unfair and took it upon himself to change. The soldier who witnesses a grenade fall into a bunker filled with his fellow soldiers knows that they will all die if he does nothing. Better to sacrifice himself than to allow that to happen, and he dives upon it and smothers it with his own body to shield his fellow soldiers from the Reaper. In short, these are men of character.

If Mr. William “Wild Bill” Guarnere were asked how he won his Medal of Honor, the tale would likely boil down to “what else could I do?” It is that humility and honesty that mark such men. Joshua Chamberlain called these men giants. I agree. I also agree with Chamberlain that should any of us ever go, but a single generation without them, we will be both damned and doomed.

May Mr. Guarnere rest in peace, and may his memory never fade.
