Gotta love a flying Gatling gun….I love the awkwardness of it. I fly it when I play the Battlefield series of games and in BF2 the tracers look awesome.

“Surely the most robust, kick-butt aircraft ever built.”
    For sure.

Holy Crap! I saw this and thought how much this crowd would love the ‘Warthog’ . We are a close knit group http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif

Good to see congress reversed one stupid move. The A-10 is probably one of the most effective programs ever in service. If the Republicans take control of the Senate this fall they need to order a new model of the A-10 as well as bringing back the F-22 and shelving the F-35.

Back in the 80’s and 90’s we used to see two and four plane flights of A-10’s flying overhead. There was one big ranch nearby that had a FAA radar control vector located on it.The A-10’s used to come in at full military power just above the tree tops and practice hard banking turns around that vector. It was a sight I’ll never forget, the noise from the engines would rattle your bones

Kinda like this, but lower and faster-

And always remember,if you call in an A-10 for close air support, you had better mean CLOSE.

Over a week ago there were pictures of ISIS moving in a single file convoy in western Iraqi.Probably a hundred or more vehicles and technical s all in a nice, straight line.

A single two ship flight would have done the job, done it on the cheap and in 10 minutes.A couple of gun runs followed by cluster munitions and ISIS would have been on their knees. You just don’t get targets like that everyday, shame our failure in chief is in league with the enemy.

 And not a bad roll rate, is it, for an old girl?

      • Darin says:

Nope, not bad at all ,of course the control surfaces are the size of Barn doors which helps

One video stated that the plane weighs 12 tons in the “ready empty”state meaning gun loaded and tanks full and can carry 12 more tons ordinance. Also two pilots working together can manage attack runs on the same target at 10-15 second intervals making the A-10 one of the most maneuverable combat aircraft ever built.

        • KG says:

There is no way the F35 boondoggle will be as effective for CAS missions, whatever the Pentagon zoomies may claim.

          • Darin says:

No chance in hell, the F-35 simply doesn’t have what it takes in any area to match the A-10,not even close.
The A-10 is the newest member of an evolutionary design development process that stretches back to the P-47.Lots of guns, lots of rockets and bombs and the ability to loiter over the target. The F-35 doesn’t match.

I think the F-35 should be shelved until it’s perfected.Bring back the F-22 and build an A-10 Thunderbolt III.

I wonder what would happen if fire and forget technology were added to an A-10 ?http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_mail.gifhttp://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_mail.gif
