Sheesh…the minds of CR readers! The title refers to the wind-harp series 1. Now to tune the slots and fit piano wires. With enough wind, the pipe emits the low rumbling didgeridoo growl I’m aiming for, while the white prototype on the left of the big pipe sounds like a fairy flute, proving that size does matter.
KG:
It looks like a great concept, but did you get the proper license and pay the appointed fees

er…no, Ronbo. And we didn’t wear safety harnesses and hi-viz vests when putting it up either.
Once you get it up and running, post an mpeg. Would love to hear it. And is there any purpose to it beyond audible enjoyment?
Only that, and plain old-fashioned curiosity, GW.
Its very sensitive to wind direction, so it needs to be fitted to a swivelling base, with a windvane to keep the slots at the right angle to the wind. We could probably achieve the same result by cutting more slots at 90 degrees to the existing ones but that may reduce the resonance of the pipe.
Very cool stuff, KG!
It’s good fun, Tranquil and I owe a big “thank you” to the person who donated the pipe to make it possible.
Hmmm…I wonder if a thin strip of sheet metal could be wrapped around the pipe and used to make the slots tunable?
But sheet metal would be easier to find, probably.
Great minds think alike
KG, shouldn’t there be a propellor thingy on top.
A propellor implies some kind of..um..usefulness and We Artists would never demean ourselves in such a way.
*sniff*
Just thought you might be starting a wind farm.
“Dutch astrophysicist Hertz Van Rental today was critical of a plan by the New Zealand Space Agency to launch the world’s first ever mission to the Sun.”
Asking the agency how they would keep the astronauts from burning up,the answer was simply “no worries mate,we’ll land at night”
