“Trust us”. Riiight…..

‘Customs boss Carolyn Tremain has told MPs the department would only request travellers hand over passwords to their electronic devices if it had a reason to be suspicious about what was on them.
..That would be without Customs officials having to show they had any grounds for suspicion.
Although the proposed power would let Customs request passwords from any traveller or do random checks on electronic devices, Tremain told a parliamentary select committee that was not its intention…’
If that’s not its intention, then why isn’t the proposed legislation worded in a way that reflects that?
Intentions can change and the proposed legislation gives Customs a reserve power they could use on a whim should a traveller piss one of them off for any reason.
I don’t trust the bastards. Ever.

    “We’ll need you password, sir.”

“Very well. It’s fuck off and die you scum sucking nazi c#nts. All lower case. No spaces.”

There is no possible customs-related use for this information. It will not prevent smuggling. It will not prevent planes being blown up or hijacked. It is just a fishing expedition. There can NEVER be a valid reason for a CUSTOMS official to request a password. Not even if I had “Allu Akhbar” and “Die, Infidels, die” on my T-shirt (though that would be a valid reason to strip-search me and go through my luggage!)

Indeed it is. The customs dept already has far more power than most people realise. They surely don’t need more.
