            I loved Sobel’s book, and the reviews of the movie have been excellent, Seneca.
            It’s one of the great scientific stories. :grin:

              Always appreciated Harrison’s story,started out as a cabinet maker and ended up making history with his time keepers.

              Only rub I have with the movie is it’s portrayal of Nevil Maskelyne.They make the relationship out to be bias against Harrison’s clock,but in reality Maskelyne needed proof that the test result wasn’t a one off fluke.That is the scientific method and I can see where egos might clash considering one player was a brilliant mechanical mind and the other an Astronomer,two disciplines that don’t exactly mesh.

                Just watched the movie, Darin. I’d give it 4/5 stars. Not 5, mainly because of some technical errors about the Navy ships, but that’s a minor quibble.
                I agree about Maskelyne, but still think he was being deliberately obstructive. (such as sending the best candidate ship elsewhere when it came time for the trial voyage).

    What SERVICE :!:

    I arrived yesterday at JFK in New York City and three Secret Service agents were waiting on the “jetway” for me. :shock:

    I was escorted out of the terminal (not under arrest, btw) to a typical black SS SUV war wagon and they drove me out to my friend’s very nice home in Danbury, Connecticut in a quiet park-like upscale Republican neighborhood that is crime free thanks to the well armed “Neighborhood Watch,” whose motto is, “The bad guys in Connecticut know us – and leave us alone.”http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif

    This was a sixty mile plus journey with two SS agents in the vehicle that followed by another black SUV with two additional agents for backup, I suppose. :mrgreen: YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK :!: I should note these SS agents are well paid – above $100,000 without overtime (and they get plenty of O.T.) The usual civil service grade for the SS field agents is GS-13, which is the same pay scale as colonel in the U.S. Army, but these guys are not grey haired senior officers who earned their promotions the hard way, but young lads in their late 20s or early 30s :!:

    After fighting our way thru the morning New York City rush hour traffic, we pull up to my destination and my friend greeted me at front door – and proceeded to read the SS agents the “Patriot Riot Act” about how they would conduct themselves in HIS neighborhood :!: :mrgreen: Also, he wanted to see the law where the Secret Service had the authority to conduct surveillance on “Free Citizens of the United States” without a warrant. :mrgreen: Then he informed the SS agents he had good collection of firearms, that he was an expert marksman and avid big game hunter, a high quality security system with cameras and a moosehead in the hallway of his house. He saved the best for last and told them to stay off his property, as he considered the SS to be “armed and dangerous.” :mrgreen:

    Meanwhile, upstairs another his wife was taking pictures of the SS agents. :mrgreen: These may be posted on my blog. Maybe not. :mrgreen: Also, I have their names. :mrgreen: We are thinking about a little surveillance operation of our own. :mrgreen:

    I told the SS agents in the car on the two hour drive to Danbury that Patriots were looking at Secret Service with a special eye – and in the Age Of The Internet no citizen – high or low – has privacy. :shock: Also, that they had taken the Oath to support and defend the Republic – and that certain people may find certain actions they take to be treason. :shock: I went on to say that the Progressives were Top Dogs today in America….BUT WHAT ABOUT TOMORROW :?: :shock:

    I know this all sounds like fiction to those who don’t know the back story to me, but I think my fellow Crusaders are well briefed on my status with the U.S. Government –

    I’m considered a “Class III Threat” – the highest level.
