The Doc speaks commonsense and truth,

which is why this will be roundly condemned:
‘Pure MDMA is safer than alcohol and should be legal, emergency doctor says.
….”There are political and moral barriers that society has to get through – and we may still find something that is better and safer than MDMA – but people will always take recreational drugs and society has to accept that at some some stage there will be a drug available that is a safe and acceptable alternative to alcohol.”..’
I recall watching a Brit documentary years ago, in which a pharmacology prof. described pure MDMA as “one of the safest drugs” she knew. It caused a storm, but I’ve yet to see any hard evidence that she was wrong.
People are going to use drugs. They always have and no doubt always will. The “war on drugs” has been a spectacular and expensive failure, so maybe it’s time to use some commonsense.

  1. MacDoctor says:

Actually this is not, strictly speaking, true. MDMA is more harmful than alcohol, if the alcohol is consumed in small quantities (1-2 units daily). As drugs go , it is pretty safe – causes a bit of insomnia, constipation and the occasional hysterical conversion syndrome – but small quantities of alcohol appear to have minimal ill effects and may be beneficial.

Of course, in head-to-head comparisons, including all the alcoholics and heavy boozers, MDMA is much safer. However, this is not a realistic comparison.

Having said that, there is no doubt in my mind that the “war on drugs” is a complete waste of time and money. We would be far better off as a country putting all that money into rehabilitation of addicts and legalising at least some of the safer stuff.

    Thanks for the input, MacDoctor.

    Yes indeed.

Legalize all of it and then give it away to all takers no questions asked. That way the junkies have their fix and we knock the bottom out of the market.I mean everything to,POT,heroin, acid, meth, cocaine, crack even flakka,I don’t care and I have no sympathy for what happens to them.

No treatment,no interventions,no employment,no welfare and no right to vote.Addicts should be shunned and excluded from our culture. Our culture’s attitudes have shifted to tolerating the intolerable,we need to change the culture back to where it used to be.Multimillion dollar sports figure or movie star-shunned,politician-removed from office and shunned.Make the message loud and clear, you can use all you want and get your fix for free, but life otherwise will offer very limited prospects.

It’s a bit hard to justify its decriminalisation to people who have been raped after they have been given it without their knowledge.

    • KG says:

Well, there are always individual cases which speak against it, Mawm. But the war on drugs has caused huge collateral damage too.

      • mawm says:

Yes. The leftist me says some people just have to be protected from themselves, and the subsequent cost paid by society, while the rightist me says it’s Darwinian. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

    • MacDoctor says:

While what you say is true, mawm, the drugs used in that scenario are usually legally prescribed (often illegally obtained) drugs such as hypnotics and some narcotics. These are not banned drugs.

In a perfect world people would be free to choose, choose sparingly and accept a limited risk. Trouble is, we are all different (what makes us human) and most won’t or can’t play by these rules. A society ruled by Darwin or what we have now, who knows?
    Hehe, I’m writing like I’ve had a pill.. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yes.gif

I think people need to calm down about weed because although I’m not a user I’ve yet to see some stoner want to hack someone to death when they’re wasted – they’re not capable of anything.

This YT video shows that cannabis oil can cure skin cancers but it’s Big Pharma that doesn’t want their patch threatened because weed can’t be patented:

Big oil also didn’t want rope made out of hemp any more because it would take away from their sales.

I’ve seen someone wild-eyed on P and that’s where the effort needs to be employed in my opinion.

  7. Darin says:

My attitude has changed over the years having witnessed the aftermath addicts inflict on society at large in money and destroyed lives. The majority of the crime involved in the drug trade is always over money, that’s why I say legalize all of it and give it away.No money changes hands,no need for junkies to steal and no gang violence as a result of it.Drug money also finances terror the world over,if we cut off that money stream we automatically cut off a good deal of terrorist operating cash.

  8. KG says:

I do think we need to clearly differentiate between addictive and non-addictive drugs here, because the argument in each case is different.
