The smug arrogance of “artists”:

‘Meanwhile, in the Guardian:
[Arts Council] grants aren’t won down the pub by a dart competition where the bullseye’s a picture of the taxpayer’s face. Of course, I wish they were, because that would save the hours of work it takes to write a grant application. And I’m pretty good at darts.
So writes Zoë Coombs Marr, a writer, comedian and “theatre maker,” and a woman of profound humility, in a piece complaining about the “devastating effects” of modest alterations in taxpayer subsidy for Australia’s commercially unviable artists. Artists who, while unloved by the general public, are nonetheless deserving of money they haven’t earned. “I’m here to bust a few myths,” says Ms Marr. And so begins a sorrowful tale of how bloody hard it is to be an artist whose work is of little interest to the public, and how hard it is to screw other people’s earnings out of other people:…..’          David Thompson

If only some of these arseholes had to be forced to do a bit of work.

Nah, much easier for politicians and bureaucrats to steal money from you, Mathew, to bribe their various constituents than to kick the parasites out into the real world.

      • Mathew says:

I just thought of how to deal with these pieces of crap. Just tell some construction unionists that they can get the arts grants rerouted to them if they get the artists to agree to it. After a few flying teeth and cracked knee caps the artists will be scouring the classifieds for work.

Seriously though, I wish the Abbott government would be harder on these parasites. It’s not like these bums would ever stop hating them anyway so they might as well go their hardest.

I’ve said it before, there should be no public funding for art.If an Artist produces good art then money will follow. There are plenty of people in society that appreciate good art and will pay for it with their own Dime.

On the flipside,if an Artist is producing value and another entity is looking to profit from it,then they owe the Artist compensation.I see Taylor Swift understands this concept and Apple CEO’s not so much.Luckily she has more pull than they do.
