There is absolutely no legal, moral or common sense justification for any Maori claim to fresh water. The legal situation is that no-one owns water, and no-one ever has. This was the situation at common law, and the Water and Soil Conservation Act 1967 and now the Resource Management Act 1991 start off from the same assumption.
…So. Treachery is contemptible, and so are the members of our government. This is not just Key and English and the inner circle, although they are obviously the ringleaders. It is every single National MP who supports and votes for these proposals. Every single one. They may do it out of stupidity, or cowardice, or ambition ~ from our point of view, the precise motive is immaterial. Never mind that they kiss babies, and say the right things, and perhaps even help someone occasionally. The Treaty industry, growing racial separatism, and the preposterous enrichment and empowerment of a new tiny class of corporate part-Maori at the expense of an increasingly impoverished and powerless people ~ this is one of our country’s very biggest issues, and what is our elected government doing? It is betraying us. This is our water, and our country, and they are betraying us right now…’

  1. They have all the water metering in place, they already charge a science fee, so how long before Iwi demand their own fee. Sky is the limit after that, I’m guessing a cubic meter rate.. If people are able to pay for dam water, then I’m sure Iwi and Councils see potential to extract cash and expand. Of course this is environmentally friendly, a necessity due to climate change and any objections are clearly racist. Might have to look at mandatory super councils, also.

  2. Well said, they are betraying us for there own interests. Votes. Any one who pushes institutional racialism should be absolutely condemned and never voted for.

      • Mike, I love your comment and high idealism, but I think our votes count for nothing in the Brave New World – and that the only way to get rid of the current ruling class of political traitors is to shoot the bastards.

        Elections, petitions and demonstrations have gotten We The People nowhere in decades…The political game is rigged and cannot be reformed.

  3. I yearn for a government which has the strength to consign the Treaty industry to the scrap -heap of history. My instinct tells me that the majority of the thinking constituency (thinking is presently a rare phenomenon) would support abolition of statutory racism. The Treaty industry has long since left restorative values, rectification of past wrongs and justice far behind it…it is now merely a new breed of welfare-ism bounded by racism, greed and opportunism. The so-called Mana bearing maoris no longer “look back in anger” but look forward in avarice!
