Shootings? How about some FACTS?

‘On Tuesday, President Obama stunned Americans and French alike with his false claims about gun violence in America. “I say this every time we’ve got one of these mass shootings. This just doesn’t happen in other countries,” claimed Obama. It is a claim that he has continually repeated over the years.
Talk about being self-absorbed.
The French have witnessed three mass public shootings this year. January saw two attacks, one on the Charlie Hebdo magazine and another on a Paris supermarket.
In the November attacks, 129 people were killed and 352 were injured. In just 2015, France suffered more casualties – killings and injuries – from mass public shootings than the U.S. has suffered during Obama’s entire presidency (508 to 424). This number includes the San Bernandino massacre on Wednesday.
…..Norway had the highest annual death rate, with 2 mass public shooting fatalities per million people. Macedonia had a rate of 0.38, Serbia 0.28, Slovakia 0.20, Finland 0.14, Belgium 0.14, and the Czech Republic 0.13.  The US comes in No. 8 with 0.095 mass public shooting fatalities per million people. Austria and Switzerland are close behind.
In terms of the frequency of attacks, the United States ranks ninth, with 0.09 attacks per million people.  Macedonia, Serbia, Switzerland, Norway, Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, and the Czech Republic all had higher rates….’
John R. Lott
In other words – put simply enough for even a journo to understand – the country with one of the highest gun ownership rates in the Western world is also one of the safest.
(oh, and another fact the leftards and gun-grabbers can’t stomach: remove juvenile black-on-black gun crimes from the stats and America is an amazingly law-abiding country.)

…the country with one of the highest gun ownership rates in the Western world…

Effectively that is the correct stat. The possibly one other limits the ammunition.

I added those words to forestall the nitpickers, Pascal.
(incidentally, in an email a couple of years ago, John Lott invited me to publish any of his articles and any excerpts from his books without bothering to ask permission here in CR. The man knows more about the facts of this debate than anybody else I can think of.)

      • Pascal says:

I wasn’t sure if you knew what I found out only last month. The ammunition is held back until a regional emergency is declared.

Doesn’t the Swiss government subsidize range ammo for reservists? That would be the one subsidy I could support

Watch how the inconvenient truths of the latest shooters’ religion and country of origin will shuffle out of the spotlight.

Repeat after me: Evil guns made them do it.

  5. Phil Stephenson says:

Last time I looked these things up, I found that the U.S. was no 11 in firearm deaths around the world, coming in behind The Philippines. South Africa was number one in firearm deaths worldwide. Oddly enough you don’t hear much about the”gun culture” of South Africa, or calls to disarm that country.

    • KG says:

The classic leftard dilemma, isn’t it? Pointing out the truth – if the guilty party is black – is racist. So they tie themselves in knots and flat-out lie to avoid admitting certain truths.

      • Darin says:

Could it be too that they figure SA is in their victory column given it’s circling the drain?
There was a SA citizen on a machining forum I frequent a while ago trying to figure out where to immigrate to not wanting his young daughter to grow up in a nation where horrific levels of violence and crime are now the norm.

  6. Magoo says:

I wonder if the US lefties wanting a ban on all guns because of the occasional mass shooting will also want a ban on islam because of occasional terrorist acts. Someone should ask OBummer what his views on the subject are.

American Muslims take to the streets to protest the San Bernadino atrocity.

    ….ooops. Not.

    Sorry.
