  1. Perth Airport is similarly notorious for crosswinds. There was an incident in 1999 where a 747 was just touching down and a gale force west-northwester tipped it sideways. The outside left engine made contact with the ground.
Unrepentant atheists among the passengers babbled prayers. Who can blame them?

    • There’s no atheists in foxholes, or in dangerously unbalanced 747s it would seem.

  2. Run outta rudder, then pull up and go around. Second try no luck, then fly to alternate. Simple.

    • Sure, on Windoze flightsim, where there are no consequences (or engineering costs for fuckups…..)

    • The co-pilot was reportedly stunned when Captain Dallas landed the 400 ton aircraft and its hundreds of passengers in extremely adverse conditions without breaking a sweat or even suffering an elevated heart rate.

Nominally surprised that anyone thought highly of the feat he was quoted as saying, “Run outta rudder, then pull up and go around. Second try no luck, then fly to alternate. Simple.”
