When I was a kid back in the 1950s, the sci-fi writers like Robert Heinlein predicted rockets that would take off and land at their launch pads – It would appear science fact has caught up with science fiction of over 60 years ago.
Remember Asimov’s “I, ROBOT” of the early 1960s? We will soon be seeing a flood of robots taking over many manual labor jobs…..In fact, that is happening already.

Maybe the race to Mars will be between NASA and private space entrepreneurs?
For that to happen NASA will have to go back to what it was before it became a cash strapped social experiment.One simple reason,talent,the place to work now is SpaceX and Blue Origin and they are getting the lion share of the talent.
The older generation that flew the Shuttle and built the space station are retiring and dying off.There aren’t many taking their place,especially since NASA went to being a “muslim outreach” instead of designing,building and flying hardware.
