Good point. There will always be ways for the freedom loving media to operate – even in the most closed and totalitarian country. It’s like they used say in WW II, “The bomber will always get thru,” although in this case the truth will always have its day in the sun, even if we have to go back to typewriters, or the fountain pen.
A few years ago the Gillard government proposed legislation that had a similar effect to the youtube issue, but applying to blogs. Any blog that scored more than (IIRC) 15K views a year – about 300 a week – would be monitored by a council of bureaucrats. I proposed what I thought was a pretty obvious solution: create masses of new blogs. It didn’t matter whether they crossed into the red zone – most of them wouldn’t.
Alternatively, if you created ten blogs in a week and I did the same, and I reported yours for being offensive/subversive/disrespectful of the authorities, and you did likewise, and we did this repeatedly, and if a few other people followed the lead, and that few became a few thousand…
