    The current political crisis is the collective shudder of mortality passing through “every university, newspaper, TV network, Hollywood studio, publisher, education school and museum in the nation”. The left may have “wrapped up the culture war two generations ago” but it is rotting inside the wrapping.

    That last sentence is how many of us have long predicted the consequences of the Leftist takeover of all institutions. “Rotting inside the wrapping” is the end state of all termite infested structures. Parasitism that leaves for posterity nothing but a husk for the winds to blow away.

    But Wretchard’s irony is that it is the institutions that blow away. He says the people will still re-arise as they always have done.

    He doesn’t say — but I will — of course the costs are high. And that’s life — ain’t it lovely! It goes on to spite the misanthropic plans of the Malthusian “Sustainability” worshipers.

    So naturally I like Wretchard’s conclusion. I hope you see it too.

    Incidentally, he titles the Left’s institutional collapse as “Babel” and he uses the subtitle “Fallen.”

      Prayers up for the deceased military members and their families – an accident like this plunges a small military community into grief, as the families of the fallen heroes may all live in the same neighborhood.

      An old sergeant friend of mine was stationed on a small southern military base in 1965, when one of the first large scale battle took place in the Central Highlands of Vietnam between the Seventh Air Cavalry and the North Vietnamese Communist regular troops – a seasoned professional battalion (1,500) of cavalrymen without horses took on a regiment of seasoned professional commies (5,000) – and the end result came out as you would expect – the 7th cavalry was massacred again, albeit not to the last man as was this case with Custer’s troops at the Little Horn River, as the USAF and helicopter gunships were able to hold back the Reds long enough for the survivors to withdraw with their dead and wounded from the jungle and dig foxholes – The ones hit hardest was the NCOs and officers with nearly all of them wounded or dead.

      Anyhow, the teletypes were busy for the next couple of days with the names of the dead and wounded, and soon came the time to notify the military families living on this small base where everyone knew everyone. My sergeant friend was detailed to be part of the team along with the chaplains to give what comfort they could to the wives…widows…I should say.

      Of course, the ladies got the news beforehand that the 7th had been hit hard – and so as soon as their car would pull up in the driveway, the women and children of the fallen soldier would start crying because they knew what the team had to say to them. “Daddy was never coming home.”

      My friend said that day was the worst in his 30 year military career.

    Arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska on Air Alaska on a direct flight from Seattle. When the plane took off from SEATAC it was dark – but when we arrived at 0145 (that’s 1:45 a.m. to you civilians it was still light in Fairbanks. It’s the white nights in the far north near the Arctic Circle.

    This time I flew first class and had the best seat on the plane in the first row near the galley and cockpit. Free eats and drinks…free movies. Friendly stews to keep the free-bees coming and giving an old man like me free eye candy. Say what you will, but a pretty woman is very easy to look at for several hours of flight time – no touchy, of course! :-)

    Anyhow, typing on my laptop at the B&B one block from the Fairbanks police department in beautiful downtown Fairbanks (population 30,000) – and watching the rain fall. The temperature is today will rise to maybe 70 degrees Fahrenheit – and tomorrow I’m going to go up the Dalton Highway to the Arctic Circle on a tour. If you watch PBS or NETFLIX the “Ice Road Truckers” run the dangerous Dalton Highway to the oil fields in the frozen north transporting needed supplies and equipment in the middle of winter, which is the best time to run the Dalton past the Arctic Circle, where the road really gets dicey.

    So tomorrow old Ronbo – along with some sidekick tourists he’s never met before – will be running the Dalton – the easy part of the Dalton they say where none come to harm – even with the hairy turns around mountains with no guardrails and 1,000 foot drops.

    Hey, these Alaskan guides are best drivers in the world…they say :-)

        No, we won’t be seeing beautiful downtown Dead Horse, the garden spot of the Arctic – that place is a couple of bridges too far up Dalton, where only the Ice Road Truckers in winter are bold enough to venture…0507 right now (That’s 5:30 a.m. to you civilians) on July 14, 2017.

        I’m currently in my B&B looking out over my landlady’s greenhouse. My sleep is totaled screwed up. I’ve had about five hours sleep in last 48 house. Reason. It’s always light out. I pull the curtains shut, but sunlight always creeps in and I can feel it!

        Yesterday, I literally collapsed in my bed fully clothed about five in the afternoon after eating a late lunch or early dinner – take your pick…I woke up about 10 P.M. and would have gone back to sleep to catch up on the zzs… but…you guessed it. The sunlight was streaming in the windows like high noon.
